Goalie change wont help. Had to go with varly until he stunk. Unless a game three miracle like last playoff 4 fastest playoff goals ever happens this team is cooked. Too old too slow and 4-5 playoffs past the trotz years now. 3 and 6 can't shut down anymore. 8 too jittery on d side. And 13, 14, 29, 21 have to do the scoring with no other depth scoring. This series could be over on sat. No margin for error.
Varly isn’t the issue. Does anyone seriously think this team can take 4/5 remaining games against the canes?! I’m looking forward to disconnecting from fanhood until next fall
Gil, I think definitely fasching in for Martin and iskhakov in for holmstrom. Plus Sorokin can have an A+++ game and we can still lose by four. We know the offense has been the problem for years!

The islanders make life very easy for Carolina. Islanders consistently try to dump the puck in the offensive zone. Carolina is happy for the islanders ro do this because they have speed across 4 lines and feel confident in winning puck battle and regaining puck possession
What makes life uncomfortable is when teams are able to consistently have their defensemen make the initial outlet pass and hit their forwards with speed hitting the neutral zone

When you have D Men with speed to rush the puck up the ice

Gil Freddy ended the season great. However Game 1 he was shaky the islanders had their chances and could not convert

Engval is horrible. He contributed zero. Barzal better pick up his game. Let's face it, we have a team just good enough to make the playoffs, but not even close to being good enough to win a Stanley Cup.

There's a reason the Islanders struggle against the Hurricanes. It's the personnel. As you mentioned, the Canes have speed, and that can be tough for an old team to keep up. Plus, Canes got scorers. You are not going to beat them in a track meet and as much as the Islanders want to muddle the game, it doesn't end up well since the Canes can get through that. There's a reason Patrick was hoping for the best that the defense and goaltending can somehow get the Islanders out of it, and as you know, that's a recipe for a loss.
As for lineup changes, this is a mark of a team that is down 2-0 making a desperate move to search for answers. This is a team that knows if it doesn't win tonight, this is a four-game sweep or odds are this ends in a gentleman's sweep. This is for the season for all intents and purposes tonight.
