My take is keep Matheson around til the trade deadline…IF ..IF a BIG Offer comes along.. then pull the trigger…otherwise let him guide the young d-men for the whole year..!! Go Habs …!!!

Even as a Franco i would not take on Huberdeau's contract.Too much money,too many seasons.
And Pierre-Luc Dubois looks more and more to be either toxic,confused,a crybaby or just not a team player.He's got some talent for sure,but imho he would be a very bad influence to the young Habs players.

AND, if we are fighting for a playoff spot at the trade deadline, which i believe is our goal, we would not make tgat trade then, and long term this will turn into an Anderson contract.
Keep Matheson. You don't make your whole future offensive D plans on a 1 game sample (Mailloux) or two game sample (Hutson). Let Matheson assure the transition… If you get rid of him it will also greatly affect guys like Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf.

P.L..D. is worth getting at his present low trade value ..He is a top player just not getting time in LA ..He is a perfect HAB prospect for the long term !
2 months ago we were sooooo glad we dodged a bullet on huberdeau and Dubois… now ppl are saying get em both… non merci !!!
Matheson simply has way more value to MTL than any other team. I don't believe he's earned that much respect for his offensive prowess when you consider he was on the ice for half the game on most nights, always PP1, and the amount of brain farts he has on a regular basis. Adding to the fact that MTL wants to make a step forward next here, he's here to stay. One of the young guys (probably Struble for his physicality, Harris won't entice much) will be moved alongside picks for another area of need (higher pick or prospect) before, or at the draft.
If the players in the system now and this years drafts pan out, the Habs will be hard pressed to sign them all long term within the cap. No need to bring in another older reclamation project, I am still having Drouin flashbacks
I think they like to track the progression of prospect. With the winning attitude the like in prospect I feel habs will pick lindstrom or iginla

Anyone who says to trade Matheson right now is smokin' some tainted electric lettuce. It's a good contract, great production, great leader and mentor, he's healthy, and a local. The young D aren't anywhere close to being leaders yet. If Chef Kent cooks at the deadline and absolutely fleeces the counterparty of the trade, ok. But MM is far more valuable to MTL than he is to any other team IMO. The solution to the surplus of D is not to trade the best, and have several mediocre D with questionable ceilings learning on their own. The solution is trade 1-2 of (Harris, Barron, Struble, etc), potentially with a draft pick or two, for a top 6 forward with playoff size and production!
They're getting monahan back next year
