  1. I was never a Penguins fan and honestly I found the hype around Crosby when he was a rookie was very obnoxious especially before he was drafted. That said there's no argument that puts him outside of the top 10 and really he'll finish his career as probably the second or third best all time

  2. I really love Sid the kid, and he is a top 5 player for sure, but there is only one champion of longevity…

  3. Where’s Howe in this? Rushmore right now is

    Gretzky
    Lemieux
    Orr
    Howe

No problem with 5 being a debate. I’d personally put Hasek there.

  4. The era adjusted argument pisses off many older fans but it’s completely valid. He did so much at a time when goals were harder to score. When he finally beat the wings, that team was so defensively stacked it was a miracle they did it. He’s won EVERYTHING you could ever win and he was robbed of anywhere from 200-250 points at his prime. Based off how he plays right now he’s got at least 4 more seasons in him. He’s certainly top 3. And era adjusted I think there’s a good argument that he would hold his own against Gretzky and Lemieux.

  5. Lol 2nd?? No. 2nd best pen? Maybe…..
Wayne, Lemieux, oar, then we talk a half dozen players who can be discussed.
But is he better then Howe, Jagr, Richard territory?

  6. What's crazy is leon draisaitl is 3rd all time behind gretzki and lemieux in playoff points per game, mcdavid is fourth. Both are underpaid (8m and 13m). How in the world management hasn't won a cup blows my mind

  7. I'm not 100% sure if he's top 4 of all time, I'd say he's easily top 10. likely just above Stevie Y and Sakic but to get top 4 how do you push off Orr, or Gordie or some of the other greats.
Even with Mcdavid, outside of not winning a cup yet, his stats are likely going to be way crazier long term, so how do you keep him off that list?

Where I'm sort of more curious is why the opinion of Ovechkin isn't that high? Likely because he's Russian and not Canadian, but at the end of both their career's they'll likely have very close to the same amount of points, but Ovi will have more individual awards by a landslide and he will have more all time records by a landslide.

Not to mention that the most difficult thing to do in hockey is score goals… so, how do you keep the greatest goal scorer of all time off that list?

I mean outside of cups (which are a team award and lets be honest, the Pens have had a much more stacked team for years than the Caps), if we are counting stats and accomplishments for who's on that top 4 list. Then Ovi's got more, so how is he not up there?

  8. Top 10 definitely … top 5 maybe but why are we discussing this before he’s even retired

  9. Depends on how you list it, centres for sure heck he’s top 3 but overall he’s 5 if we don’t count goalies

  10. What’s more annoying is that Lemieux, Crosby and Jagr played for the same team. And then you have Gretzky and McDavid…

  11. A correction, you said 3 is the record for cups by a single player in the modern era but Chris Kunitz has 4 (2007, 2009, 2016, 2017)

  12. 2nd best? No, he wont pass lemieux at no2. Gretzky and lemieux will remain the top 2 forever probably

  13. When you get top 5 it becomes more than stats, it’s about how they change hockey and the culture on and off the ice. That’s what Crosby lacks compared to those Top 3, maybe even 4 in Howe

  14. Yes but he’s not going to be in the top 5 long. Sadly injuries kept him from getting more then 2 art rosses and players will come up in the future winning 5+ like mcdavid and at least some of them will have playoff success as well.

  15. “It’s no disrespect of some of the legends” Yes iI is. Not intentionally so, but clearly it is. In no way does that short perspective respect, acknowledge, appreciate or recognize what the legends did. Saying no disrespect is an empty platitude if you weren’t there to see it.
You won’t find a hockey person who saw Orr play rank him lower than third. The distance between Gretzky, Lemieux and Orr and who ever is fourth is a big gap.
I’m a big Crosby fan but I don’t see how he could possibly crack the top three now. Winning 3 cups on the same team is not one of his big accomplishments and NO, it’s not that important. It is innumeracy to argue otherwise. Winning 3 cups on different teams is much more impressive but also not that important because teams win cups – not players. Dionne had zero cups and ranks much higher all time than Henri Richard who won 11 cups and that isn’t even a close call. If cups were an important measuring stick Henri would be the best player in history but he is not even top 50.
I do think Crosby will end up around 5th, but it’s guys like the Rocket, Howe, Bossy and Messier that he has to pass. McDavid will likely be somewhere between 2nd and 4th before he is done.

  16. McDavid sits comfortably at #1
Crosby I would put him top 10 out of top 5.
But if we're only going by skills alone, I would say all current players are better than past players.
So Leo Drasatil is #2 all time.
    #3 Nathan Mackinnon

  17. As good as Sid is as a player, he's a better human being.

Met him twice. Great guy. Tremendous professional as well, he's been the perfect captain for the Pens and arguably with 66 helped save the team for the city of Pittsburgh.

  18. Agree with the first readout. Grezt, Mario, Sid and Jags. It is what it is. All of those guys are great in anyera

  19. Crosby is the best hockey player to ever pick up a stick. Period. Go ahead, try to change my mind. I spent 48hours total in airports and on planes to get from Vancouver Island to Pittsburgh to watch Crosby, Malkin, and Letang in person. Even during this pitiful Penguins’ season, it was spectacular.

Even when I ask my Amazon Alexa who’s your favourite hockey player?
Alexa says: “Whoever said Penguins can’t fly hasn’t seen Sidney Crosby’s game. He is a one-man power play, but it’s his charity work with children that sends my circuits into over-time”

Even AI knows who’s the best already.
