They fought hard to get into the playoffs and probably burned out doing so. Probably would’ve happened to any of the four teams fighting for that last spot.

Please leave this legend alone. This Washington team shouldn’t even be here.

Since 2005 he scored 72 in playoffs. Who did more for Washington? Now time to give way to the young
JerbearCuddles
Shame to see Ovi get smoked like that though. Hendrix Lapierre, Dylan Strome, and Connor McMichael as your top 3 centers. Not much Ovi can do with that. They had a -37 goal differential. I would have been more surprised if they won a game tbh.
cast-n-blast
Anyone else thinking he’s going to retire this year? I just don’t see him scoring 40+ goals next season and I don’t see him playing 2 more years.
hugeskinsfan182
Teams missing a lot of pieces and he is 38. As a caps fan I’m proud they made it to the postseason with the adversity they faced! Good experience for a lot of the younger guys who barely had NHL time let alone playoff time.
Go caps!

The Russian Gretzky, except when it’s his country he chokes when it’s time for war…

I called it as soon as they made playoffs and we didn’t, old man ovi is going to waste his playoff spot and get swept. the caps did not look like a playoff team and i was right. the end of our season was magical and i really wish we won an away game in march lmao
Semprovictus
maybe he wants to rest for the regular season lol.
get the record and retire. he has nothing else to prove
Dry-Addendum-80
Caps are bad, but ovi is the worst player on the ice consistently. Sport is a young man’s game and he’s close to 40, so I don’t understand how anyone is surprised
Mr3CountRadio
My Wings might not have won this series … but it would have been much more competitive than that garbage. The Rangers are legit.
Curious_Question1092
lmao of course Washington loses in 4. I know this is losers talk but I think we could have won at least a game
nopantts
Real talk: do they limp him to the record next year then ask him to retire as a cap?

Welp, back to sucking a short dictator’s dick for the summer I guess.

I havent watched other Caps games as I follow the Rangers. But from the little I have seen from him in the regular season, he didn’t play any differently there as well. His time is past, and He just stays on to eventually break Gretzky. Personally I hope he fails with that and retires before that. Seems he will need at least another two seasons minimum.
Mac6298
Maybe he should stop chipping it in to the opposite corner in hopes his teammate goes and gets it and sets him up. Got to put the work in Ovechkin or hang ‘em up
italjersguy
I watched every minute of the series and I’m kind of surprised he actually got 6 shots. I would have guessed closer to 3.

Directly related to the W/L/OTL points system.
Extra point for OTL = Less of a gap between winning & losing teams = More teams in playoff contention = Battles at the end of the season for the wildcard = Burnt out teams entering round 1 of playoffs = Round 1 sweeps more likely

well there goes my prediction

Weird title tbh, the guy has a cup and has a longer and better playoff career than most players. Not sure I’d call it a failure to launch, though he was very unimpressive this go around

He can’t create his own shot anymore.
He’ll still break the record though.

I went to an Islanders game vs Caps early in the season and sat just off the glass near the caps bench. I was super excited to see Ovi that close. It was so incredibly disappointing. He looked like he could careless about the game and was obviously only trying to score goals. He would take himself on and off the ice, in what looked like there was no regard for lines. Puck was coming in the offensive zone #8 was going out. Puck left the zone, head to the bench and re tape his stick. When the puck was in the offensive zone he stayed high circle putting no effort into anything but calling for the puck. You could see his teammates doing everything they could to get him the puck too. I left that game very disappointed and now watching this series I’m not surprised at all.
Ecstatic-Arachnid-91
I doubt anyone was surprised by the series ending like it did. I would hazard a guess even the Caps fans feel that way too.
Ketachloride
Obviously glad to win, but this is sad to see, along with all the hate the dude has been getting over it
Goalcaufield9
They have been playing playoff hockey since march so it’s definitely hard to keep it going especially when you get a breath of fresh air of making the playoffs on the 82nd game and then right into playoffs the next week
self_direct_person
pretty hard to launch when your 40 something years old.
Answer481
They fought hard to get into the playoffs but honestly didn’t think they stood much of a chance angainst the Rangers.
