What happened to Alex Ovechkin in series vs. Rangers?

The Rangers won the Presidents’ Trophy with 114 points in the regular season and started their postseason with a sweep of the Capitals. TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss if the Rangers deserve more respect as legitimate Stanley Cup contenders, and to question what happened to Alex Ovechkin in the series.

  1. Since playoff goals don't count toward his personal record, he doesn't care. That's you captain. POS.

  2. Gretzky cursed him…you are never to break my record. You are RUSSIAN WITH PUTIN …only CANADIAN PLAYERS HAVE A SHOT LIKE McDAVID

  3. At this stage of Ovechkins career, he'll be 39 in September, he's got his Ring and now hes gunning for Gretzkys record. He has 2 years left on his contract and i think he will do it.

  4. It doesn't matter. He has nothing to prove. NHLs greatest goal scorer ever. Matthew's might score lots but has nowhere near the drive ovi had

  5. Washington is a team solely for Ovechkin to break records. As a fan this is bs. retire.

  6. Ovi's almost 40, he's already won a Cup, the Caps barely made it into the playoffs and their next Cup win will happen long after Ovi is retired, the Rangers have a very deep team that was almost 25 points better during the regular season and playoff goals don't count towards Gretzky's record. Ovi was checked out mentally before the puck was dropped in Game 1.

  7. What happened?! He’s 38 years old. That’s what happened. I guess he stopped taking his PEDs before the playoffs.

  8. It wasn't regular season and his efforts don't go towards chasing gretz is record is what people will say but the truth is he's fuckin old dog

  9. Man i feel for caps fans, having to watch there captain and legendary player cherry picking last night and not engaging in puck battles what so ever. Jeez, i miss that old ovechkin, even in 2014 when the rangers beat them ovi still had a couple beautiful goals

  10. Wish he’d retire and leave being satisfied with a superstar career. If he can’t skate hard for entire game and has to coast it for a couple seasons just so he can hang in to break a record then…? Seems like taking an entire career of highlights and respect just to leave that behind and be remembered for dogging his last seasons for personal goals and ego no? Will the excitement of the record be the same and worth it if he limped in to the last 100 goals of it?
