the reason mtl sucked is simple, They have One offensive line Young def core Goalies are fine, they get bombarded with pucks because one offensive line isnt enough to have puck possesion
Lost his second line center in the second game of the year who was driving his line, has three second year dmen, two first year dmen and only two “veteran” defenders who have concrete for legs. Marty hasn’t been given a team, he’s helping make one. If 74 points is all they get next year then they have the conversation, until then I don’t think he’s been given enough to even show he can coach. All signs point towards the players are willing to go through a wall for him
They have been in cup finals 3 years ago so prospect pool being 10th great. Also defense will be awesome in a few years but I agree this years draft is crucial
-Suzuki is not a player who is going to crack 80 points, first off he was 3 points off and 2nd he improved from 66 points to 77 points it's fair to see a progression in his play and fair to assume he will crack the 80 points easily with a better looking Habs team in the future.
This is one of the worst takes ive ever seen and i dont wanna be mean about it but the team is getting better. We still have injury troubles, and we are one of the youngest teams in the nhl. MSL is gonna prove so much in the next 2-4 years
Pretty awful take on MSL, tbh. You’re looking at them as if they’re trying to make the playoffs, when it’s been a clear rebuild. As far as a coach for a rebuilding team goes, MSL may be one of the best ever. It remains to be seen if he can tighten things up for a playoff push, but he’s incredibly smart and willing to learn, so we’ll see.
Slaf also had 50 points as a 19 year old, that’s absolutely a foundational piece for any team.
This is a terrible take, one or two star players in the offseason, instead of investing in the entire system, just puts you in the same place as the avs or wings or leafs have been in over the last 15 years.
Strange commentary. If you ask any actual Montreal fan, they would consider the season a success. None of us consider this a finished project. We like the potential of our young guys and that includes our coach. So…yeah, strange commentary.
They sucked because theyre rebuilding and were not aiming for a playoff run, its this simple. To say that the rebuild is <<not anywhere near where it should be>> after they JUST started rebuilding tells me you dont know much about hockey
As a habs fan, this season was pretty good. The core players had in general a good season or a big jump (like slaf) . They had one offensive line and a young defensive core. The suzuki line had no help so it was easy for other teams to match them. Montembault and primeau were good most of the time.
I think st louis has a few things to learn as a coach but overall I trust him and gets to best from most of his players. He has a brilliant hockey mind.
For the gm part, anderson, gallagher, armia, dvorak, probably some other contract were no signed by Kent hughes, so it’s unfair for him. He can’t really move some of them and he’s stuck with them.
Finally, for slafkovsky, he is already part of the core. I think he is more and will be more important to this team than caufield. What he brings is unique and the production will only get better. Already 50 pts in his second year.
I watched every game. Your analysis is completely wrong. Maybe watch the season before marking ridiculous comments. Very disappointing and only click bait. Never seen any of your videos before and never will again. What a joke.
the way you pronounce xhekajs name makes me understand why your takes are dog shit. you look at numbers and advanced stats and have never watched a single game
Slafkovsky is not a game changer? Did you watch any game? Guy is monster out there. He had like point per game since december…And you claim he was a bust? How you can compare him to Yakupov when he was 18 in his first season? So many bad takes it hurts.
1) Rebuilding, and relying on a bunch of extremely young defensemen who are still learning the ropes at the NHL level.
2) Injuries. Dach missed basically the entire season. Newhook and Dvorak combined missed about a season's worth of games. And both Xhekaj and Guhle got shut down at the end of the year. And that's just what I can remember (didn't Pearson miss a couple dozen games too?).
That's it. The Habs are moving in the right direction. Despite having what is undeniably the highest total of man-games lost to injury in any 3 consecutive seasons of the post-original 6 NHL (both 2021-22 and 2022-23 were historically bad seasons with respect to injury; this season was an improvement, believe it or not, although still pretty dismal), they have consistently shown improvement over that time (which started when MSL was hired). They will be a bubble team next year, kind of like the Capitals of this year, except those guys are just starting their re-build, while the Habs are close to finishing it – injuries will likely determine whether they are sellers at the deadline (i.e. do they rent guys like Savard to other teams, or do they keep them in anticipation of a playoff run of their own?). I have zero issues with MSL – the guy is clearly beloved by the players, and he has managed to get them to buy into his system…which works, when properly implemented. He is also learning on the job, so expect him to keep improving as time passes.
Plus, Slaf keeps improving (20 goals 50 points this year), Caufield keeps improving (he'll score 40+ next year, barring significant injury) and Suzuki keeps improving. All three of those top-line guys had career years this year. So the Habs finally have a top line that can really bring it. Ask yourself: how long did it take the Jets 2.0 to really get a legit top line? They drafted Scheifele in 2011. He didn't exceed 20 goals or 50 points until 2015, when he was 22 years old – the same age Suzuki did the same (and it took him an extra year than Suzuki to exceed 30 goals, or 70 points). And the pieces didn't really come together until six years after they drafted Scheifele. I submit that the Habs would have had a similar timeline, except Suzuki was added to the Habs 3 YEARS before they officially started a re-build (they went to the Cup Final in 2021, 3 years after they added Suzuki to their team), while the Jets' started from scratch, with nothing at all, and took 4 years to make the playoffs even (getting swept in that first year). It takes time to succeed in the NHL, even with the best asset management and coaching. Considering this rebuild is only 3 seasons old, I'd say they're taking the fast track!
The supporting cast is where Habs management could really improve the team in the off season considering the cap limitations for the next season, along with the addition of at least one talented top 6 forward. Hopefully Kirby Dach comes back from his knee injury and can still be impactful. It’s going to be a busy summer for Kent Hughes and company!
Absolutely hemmed by injuries, already rebuilding and were actually in the playoff chase for a bit. All the players who are supposed to be the big parts of their core going forward were incredible too. Not sure what you’re whining about.

i love your analysis
Honeslty Montreal in rebuild so you can’t be that hard on the coach

MSL is a great coach.
MSL sucks.

How many times are you gonna pronounce Xhekaj’s name wrong
Marty is doing his best with the team hes got…
Montreals prospect pool has gotten worse from players graduating…They have easily a top 5 under 25 core between young roster players and prospects.
This is one of the worst takes ive ever seen and i dont wanna be mean about it but the team is getting better. We still have injury troubles, and we are one of the youngest teams in the nhl. MSL is gonna prove so much in the next 2-4 years
Wait Caufield was at 1 goal in 30 games then when MSL came scored 48 in his next 82 games. Bad coach??

Ben voyons donc.

This is a really bad analysis.

Bad take buddy…bad take

Bettman's always loved the Canadiens.

Disagree completely
Yeah, I don't think it's that complicated.
1) Rebuilding, and relying on a bunch of extremely young defensemen who are still learning the ropes at the NHL level.

Yeah because rebuilds should literally take just one year right? Their futures looking really bright and their prospects look good and talented

What a rat move it is to make this video lol, click bait horse shit
You are clueless and have zero credibility…time to move out of your parents basement,
A proper rebuild should take 7-8 years for drafts to develop .. MSL is doing a great job.. not sure I follow your logic
