Doomers get in here. Yes, we were right last season. Yes, we were right this season. Rather than build more division in this sub, get your “I told you so’s” out now so we can all come together and support this team moving forward. We have a lot of good things to look forward to in the offseason.

We have our 1st round pick. Lou will be stepping down as GM and retain his role as  President of Hockey Operations. Roy will be able to work with the new GM to retool this roster and start building the team he wants. A lot to look forward to and hopefully lessen the sting of this loss. See you all next season.

  2. There ain’t no island left for Islanders like me

  3. i_wannatalktosamson

Doomers can kiss my ass. Watching the end of the season was awesome and this whole series was tight, I believe Roy is going to be a great coach on the island

I believe the 5 on 5 goals was even for the series. The difference was elite special teams vs bad special teams, which a full off-season under a new coach can hopefully change

  4. DrTurtles

I hope this is enough for management to recognize this core is done. You don’t have to rebuild but you certainly need to start an AGGRESSIVE retool this summer.

Terrible season. See you all in October.

Serious question: Is this the last time we sniff the playoffs for awhile?

  6. Brilliant-Chapter202

I dislike the Canes… however, I dislike the rags more.

What I’m trying to say is… Let’s Go Canes.

  7. Wild_Plant_2100

are the ISLES CURSED? The curse of Al ARBOUR HAS S IN FULL EFFECT

  8. cycologize

Ladies and gentlemen it’s been a pleasure

(and also absolutely miserable about 45% of the time)

But we all stuck through it

See you next year! Or September I guess

    Fuck the rags

    And sign Reilly STAT

  9. bmore_los78

If we had to lose any game, I’m glad it was game 5. We didn’t get eliminated at home and we didn’t come all the way back just to lose in an even worse heartbreaking fashion.

Anyway, go Avs! Get Parise a cup.

  10. GiantTeddyGraham

We simply just aren’t good enough. We need to blow it up. I’d rather suck for the next 2-3 years than live in mediocrity for the next 15

  11. islesjets14x

Barzal looks so sad. What a rollercoaster season. Was a pleasure (sorta) 🫡

  12. As much as this hurt I’m excited as hell to see what St. Patrick does with this team. Next season might just be a good one.

  13. ianisms10

Easily the most frustrating Islanders season I can remember, and I’m glad it’s done. There are a lot of guys who need to not be here next season, starting with Lou Lamoriello. NYIsleism.

  14. Capitals haven’t won a playoff series since Trotz…

We haven’t won a playoff series since Trotz…

I still wonder to this day what caused Lou to “fire” him.

  15. They’re good but I can’t believe this Carolina team is the cup favorite at +400. I doubt they will win

  16. Series was much closer than the games indicated. Isles showed promise and structure at times, hopefully Roy officially has full buy in from the room going forward.

Absolutely need to find a way to get faster in the off-season. I don’t think this team needs a full rebuild, but they absolutely need a retool

  17. NickCharlesYT

I hope Roy can work some magic in the offseason. And maybe Lou can finally be replaced so the team can be properly retooled.

    I can dream, right?

  18. Love you all. See you goofs in September! LGI FOREVER

  19. Datdude_717

Man that double overtime win was incredible. Glad we got to experience that. Tough way to go out with some rotten luck in the third period but it is what it is. Full season of Roy and a (hopefully) re-tooled Sorokin upcoming.

  20. RealestJP

God saw this abomination about to pull of the reverse sweep and said “no.”

Talk about “Country Club culture” all you want, they played their asses off for most of the series despite nothing going their way

  21. Lundric23

Was a pleasure riding this roller coaster of a season with all of ya, but until next season…may the off-season shitposts and memes be silly and bountiful!

  22. JoeBethersonton50504

Sad. Depressed. Hurt. Confused. Annoyed. Not surprised yet also surprised.

    Is it October yet?

  23. turbulentcounselor

    Well we tried.

I think saying “if only [insert minor thing here, like “we started on time” or “we got more puck luck”] is a sign that we’re just an average team. Good teams can overcome those things.

I’m being serious though, can be proud of the effort the guys put in. And I’m still optimistic about Roy. But there’s a lot of work to do this summer. Hopefully it gets done.

  24. Did the 5th goal really bounce off the photographer cover? If so we’re gonna need that person’s name… I know a guy.

  25. sschwiebz

Idk man I know this season was tough to watch. But other than that 2nd game I was surprised at how the boys were able to hold their own against the most relentless suffocating forecheck in the league.

  26. Been an absolutely miserable happy roller coaster of a season. Excited for a full season of Roy.

And since fuck the Rags ALWAYS wins out honk honk honk let’s go Canes for one round then they can go fuck off into the sun.

    Pulling for the Canucks now.

  27. 3isfordale

Hopefully they all see some sports psychologists in the offseason and come back closing out games next year.

For real though, proud of the effort this series. There will be some changes but i can’t wait for October. LGI

  28. f1nalatomicbuster

This season was the definition of a roller coaster. Was awesome to see this team go on a tear and make the playoffs, but unfortunately this team isn’t built to beat teams like the Hurricanes. Isles have some big decisions to make in the offseason, hope they get it right.

    Not feeling the doom

Squeaked into the playoffs, got to watch four fun games. Coulda gone differently. But it didn’t.

Like I said at the end of the regular season: I’ll take what I can get. Playoffs are wild and stuff can happen. This is the best roster we are likely to see for a number of years, so hope for the best folks

A rebuild means long hard years in the wilderness. Want to see a deep run from *this* roster.

  30. mynameismutt

These canes won’t beat the Rags.
It’s been fun. Got further than they should have.
Let’s get outside and let baseball disappoint us for a few months (for us Mets fans).
Regroup in the fall and get after it.

  31. El_Wabito

Okay so now I’m thinking to next year. We need another piece and to drop some money. Or we need to blow it up but I dont think that would be possible at the moment. My two players I think that may need the trade/buyout are either Pageau or Lee.

Pageau I love but the fact is we have enough centers and his faceoffs/penalty kill aren’t as big a deal with Horvat now. Cizikas and Maclean can fill that role just fine as a 3C/4C.

Lee is a hefty contract for diminishing returns and needs to be evaluated as a possible trade or buyout. He bleeds blue and orange which I love but the facts is he will not be getting any better and also I don’t feel is as necessary on this team anymore. I don’t think he’s bad, just not 7 million dollars good, he’s no Ladd and probably can still put up 20 goals. And we were able to get rid of Ladd so it’s possible.

I think we should get well acquainted with the Sharks this summer as a potential trade partner. They can take on money. We’d have to give up some stuff to drop a contract but id hope maybe some space and maybe it sounds crazy but maybe even get something back, you never know.

  32. oldmanhockeylife

Meh. Pretty much like the last 30 years. See you next season.

  33. They played the best they could but Carolina was just the better team. I’m curious to see how we handle this offseason and next offseason as we have some of the bigger players becoming UFAs or RFAs so it’s a chance to potentially see which direction this team intends to go.

  34. Enjoyed the company this season in victories and the crushing defeats. What a mostly miserable season. See some of you in the Yankees threads. Until the fall ya filthy animals!

  35. crazyhotwheels

The frustrating thing about this series is that Carolina was beatable in all 5 games. This was not a Rangers-Capitals situation where the higher seed came out and ran their opponent out of the building every single game. Very little about the 4 losses needed to change to flip them to wins for the Isles. Some of it are things the team could do better, like not having short bursts of poor play that put them in a hole (Games 3 and 5, looking at you), but I have faith that an offseason reset, a full training camp and preseason with Roy and likely some new assistants, and a few new faces in the forward group will help fix that. And of course, there were things like lucky bounces and bad officiating that affected some games as well- which again, is what makes this series loss more frustrating than it could’ve been.

Personally, I think the team is a lot closer to taking that next step up than a lot of people will try and say that they are this offseason. I feel pretty confident that some roster adjustments will be made, regardless of who ends up making the decisions. Time will tell what the changes will actually be.

It’s been a wild ride… we’ve laughed, cried, beLIeved, declared it’s over, never been more back and everything else in between. Time to rest up and prepare for whatever the new season will bring.

  36. Ok_Sentence_5767

Life is pain, one day I hope to see islanders host the cup but that year isn’t this…I hope the mets win it all this year

  37. Phillipiant_Turtle

Inability to score 3rd period goals really cost them this series, one 3rd period goal in 5 games is just awful. It took them 3 games before they were even scoring multiple 2nd period goals.

  38. Correct-Local3240

Yay we got a playoff win. Gotta add in the offseason and run it back! Def need 33 year old Brock into free agency and prospects aren’t guaranteed. Maybe we can give Seabrook 3 years or maybe even Bryan Little 4-5 years. In all seriousness… doomers like me aren’t having fun being doomers. I just want this team to go in the correct direction to lift a cup sooner than later. I hope Lou starts the rebuild/retool asap.

  39. TheOlMuskrat

Our roster just isn’t great, we have a good vet core + Roy who pushed us at the end of the year, and we benefitted from a weak division.

I’ll always be happy to watch playoff Islanders, but at this point I’ll take 2-3 years off if it means we lose some bad contracts, get some youth and speed, and get another goal scorer in. That’s just roster tho, and none of it matters if we don’t get better coaching for PP/PK.

My suggestion – Trade Barzal and Lee, beef up on youth, hit the FA market for a new 4th line. Keep Sorokin mentally good. D is what it is, hope for better play next year from Pulock & Pelech
