Dakota Joshua boarding on Spencer Stastney – Tough Call Recommendation
Dakota Joshua could have hit Spencer Stastney harder, sure. But if he’d done things properly he wouldn’t have ended up hitting him at all. Here’s my Tough Call Recommendation.
Joshua was staring at numbers from the hash marks in. People saying stastney turned at the last second are ridiculous. Stastney has a right to play the puck there. He did not dramatically shift his angle or position at the last second like people are claiming. The onus is on joshua.
Glad NHL already reviewed the hit and gave no suspension or fines. NHL reviewed the hit from all angles and deemed it was clean. Feet on the ground, shoulder tucked in, no strides before the hit. This hit happens every single game in the NHL playoffs, only difference Stastney put himself in a vulnerable position unlike other players around the league.
Kinda double standard vs "tough call" on Rempe is it not? I figure that this hit is a major all day in the regular season, and Refs will do what Refs do in the playoffs…
Great analysis and all but sorry defender was dumb to put himself in a vulnerable position. He knew it was coming yet he was low, head down, and off the boards. If we can’t teach people to receive hits and protect themselves anymore then we need to get rid of hitting altogether

Your analysis has changed my mind. You do a good job of providing all the details of angle of approach. Thanks for the analysis. Well said.
