How much of Jets’ struggles can be blamed on Hellebuyck?

Connor Hellebuyck was pulled from the net after just two periods in Game 4 and has now allowed 19 goals in the series. TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron joins SC with Jay Onrait to explain how much of the Jets’ struggles can be blamed on Hellebuyck, assess Valeri Nichushkin’s impressive hat trick performance, and discuss the Canucks epic comeback win.

  1. Unpopular opinion: Most of the goals he allowed aren't his fault. the team in front of him can't kill a penalty or play defence.

  2. i remember the struggles of roberto luongo, the best goalie canucks ever had, in the post seasons year after another. too bad the fingers have to be solely pointed at the goalie, but your foes will love to get into your skins and will love to strip you bare. that's what's happening with hellebuyck right now. i feel sorry for him…

  3. Stop with the delusion the Jets are a great defensive team. Requiring Hellebuyck to have to make 35+ saves every night to try and have a chance to win eliminates great defense. He is gassed. Hellebuyck will never admit that but this is the Jets MO. Get outplayed for long stretches and play for 10 minutes to come back. It does not work in the playoffs when attention to detail is required for 60 to win not 15 or 20 minutes.

  4. How on Earth could anyone make a legitimate argument for him as a Vezina, when he's allowed 23 goals in 4 games, c'mon, Marty, open your eyes!!!

  5. The Jets have been awful! According to the 'Deserve-To-Win-O-Meter,' Colorado has been deserving of victory in every game, frequently by a considerable margin.

  6. Not Hellebuyck's fault. lol

Bowness is handing this series to Bednar on a silver platter for failing to make any adjustments to the way they are playing. It's infuriating.

I've watched Todd Mclellan & Darryl Sutter run the same thing against the soilers and lose spectacularly, and now I'm watching the same thing play out in real time with Bowness against the Avs.

These old farts need to be avoided at all costs (except for Tortorella).

  7. He hasn't been great but the Jets can't keep up with the Avs pace. The first period yesterday they looked like they were standing still compared to the Avs. Plus they gave up 30 shots through 2 periods. That's not a recipe for success.

  8. Playoffs versus regular season. Hellebuyck didn't just somehow forget how to stop shots. But it could be that he's a regular season goalie not a postseason goalie. The related point is Colorado might simply be too good.

  9. The Jets defense depth chart falls off a cliff after Morrissey. It's not sustainable to expect your goalie to bail out a Defense that bleeds high danger chances – maybe you can get away with it in the regular season, but any quality playoff opponent is going to expose you in a best of 7 series

  10. Team has been playing poorly in front of him, taking stupid penalties, how hard is he suppose to carry this team when they keep doing that crap?
