I haven’t read the article but I feel like this opinion is as old as time.

People love to hate on us… and to their credit it’s been quite some time since we’ve given them reason to believe otherwise.

Honestly, I love it. I embrace it. I accept it and I so badly want this team to be the one that shuts them all up.

  2. NicholasDeOrio

    I wouldn’t know. I don’t pay their subscription.

Edit: Why is this like the only subreddit that doesn’t have people posting mirror links for crap like this?

  3. I haven’t read the article, but there’s an argument to be made. The Canes play hard and heavy, forecheck aggressively and defend very well. In past years they’ve lacked the scoring touch. But they’ve got Kuznetzov and Guentzel now. Guentzel has feasted on the rangers in the post season for years.

I think it’s going to be a close matchup. If Igor says “OK”, I think the Rangers can take them though.

  4. Stonewall30NY

Rangers finished in 1st place for the season, swept the first round and have a really good young center returning. We’re clearly underdogs

  5. NatalChaos

The article basically says that the Hurricanes will win because Kuznetsov skates reaaaaaallllllyyyy slow when he is in a shootout. We all know shootouts are HUGE in the playoffs.

  6. billyratz

I am once again reminding Ranger fans that we do not need to share/shine light on articles like this. The more clicks articles like these get, the more will get written. Just scoff and move on guys

  7. Shoddy_Reserve788

Just let them think what they want to think. The rangers will handle their business on the ice.

  8. Whitemike_23

Every Athletic NHL article reads like this and is like “source: Dom’s model which is never wrong!”

  9. NYdude777

That’s why i got no problem bypassing their shit. Hahaha

  10. AARP_Rocky

I didn’t read the article yet, but I don’t think it’s really a stretch to say that this Hurricane’s team is probably the best they’ve had under Brind’Amour.

The Guentzel pickup was pretty huge, really wish the Pens didn’t do that trade.

I don’t really find that line of thinking disrespectful to the Rangers though.

I only hope this adds even more pressure on the Hurricanes to perform who have definitely have this reputation of being underachievers given the expectations.

  11. Stealth_Howler

Good. Let them wear the “expectations” and let us have the “presidents trophy curse”- it’s all about finding the chip on your shoulder and keeping it there.

  12. SwarthySphere87

We **always** play better when there’s no expectations for us to succeed— keep making us the underdogs

  13. They haven’t watched trocheck. Also kind of clickbaity for the athletic.

  14. In what world does someone predicting one team will win mean that they hate the other team?

If your sensitive ears can only hear good things about your own team and negative things about other teams, then block all sports media. Just listen only to fans of your teams and nobody else.

  15. Sjdillon10

Insane how we won the presidents trophy, swept last round, and won the season series but basically are unanimously considered the underdogs. The canes were outplayed game 1. And got the luck of the isles choking a 3 goal lead. Then bad puck bounce game 5.

    Luckiest team in hockey

  16. Area51Anon

Maybe my NYR bias makes me notice it more but the Rangers have to be the most universally hated on team in all of sports. Understand how insufferable a minority of people in our fanbase can be but can anyone write anything nice about us lol?

  17. Did anyone actually read it? The point of the story is how the Canes are better than they were last year. It doesn’t say they’re gonna win.

  18. homiej420

Better equiped for the rangers than the capitals?

I mean…yeah? Capitals just sucked the second least in the east, the hurricanes are actually a playoff team

Stupid article to get clicks while everyone is just waiting for the series to start

  19. pony_trekker

Beyond this post season? Aren’t 3/4 of the team free agents?

  20. funkingrizzly

I for one and soaked about all the free poster board motivation this team is getting. Keep it coming!

  21. McGrathLegend

I can’t read the article so I’m not sure how this point is made, but I don’t get how someone could say that the Hurricanes are better equipped, “possibly beyond this postseason” with the amount of expiring contracts that they have.

  22. DragonfruitLeading44

the general media consensus will be good for this round i think. great way of keeping them from getting complacent and keeping the underdog mentality that’s so important for championship winning teams.

  23. Independent-Switch43

Where’s the guy who will be oh so happy if the Canes win but also loves the Rangers? Show your face!

  24. RockinRich631

I don’t know. The Islanders are a pretty weak team and Carolina seemed to have their hands full, much of the time. I’d like to think the Rangers are a stronger team than the Islanders.

Even discounting that, I like this Rangers team depth and physicality. They will definitely have to step it up now, but I’m confident they can do it.

    Bring ’em on. LGR!! !!!

  25. Key-Tip-7521

    Lav,

Another one to the motivational wall. Keep making this team madder and madder and find out

  26. illiterate01

That article was written by the Hurricanes beat writer.

  27. People in opinions, shocker.

So sensitive. They are a good team and consistently a good org…we’ll see what happens

  28. Fantastic-Drive-9959

Rangers will pecker slam the canes. It’s the Panthers I’m worried about.

  29. How are they being haters? Fans need to stop with the victim complex, not everyone thinks the Rangers will win the Cup. Thinking other teams are better than the Rangers doesn’t mean someone’s a “hater”

  30. electric_liberty

I respect the Canes. They are a top team in the league. I’m not a blind fan who thinks we’re going to steamroll them. If the Rangers aren’t up to the task, the Canes can certainly take advantage and win. If both teams perform, this could gl 7 again.

With all that said, I’m seeing most of (“neutral”) hockey pundit takes lean towards the Canes (obviously Canes homers would have them winning). Some I saw even have them winning in 5. I’m trying to remove myself from Rangers world and look at it objectively here. Did we not beat them in 7 last time they were supposed to crush us? Are we not a vastly better team in nearly every way since 2 years ago? Seems like we can go toe to toe in every position and, on paper, probably have the edge in some areas. And are we not the higher seed presidents trophy winners with home ice advantage to boot?
I do prefer being the underdog though. I hope we repeat 2 years ago and shove it to all the Canes Glazers… LGR
