FULL QUOTE from BriseBois: “Obviously, Steven Stamkos needs a contract and we want him a part of that group. You all saw, from the trade deadline on, Stammer elevated his level of play, which was incredible to see. For someone who has already earned his Hall of Fame plaque, has accomplished so much already, and has been accomplishing so much for so long, for him to play arguably the best two months of hockey of his career because it started around the trade deadline and he carried it into that series against the Panthers, for him to do that at the time when our team needed it most was incredible. You were all able to to see how he led on the ice. What is hard to see is how he also elevated his leadership game off the ice. Last summer, for various reasons, a lot of leadership left our team and nobody in our group raised their leadership game more than Steven Stamkos did to fill that void and that is harder for me even because I am not in the locker room, I am not there to see but that’s the case. We have a saying in our organization. I think it was coined by our CEO Steve Griggs. I am going to give him credit regardless. We strive for excellence with humility. Steven Stamkos has always represented excellence with humility and never more so than these past few months. The aim is for him to continue to play on a contending Tampa Bay Lightning team going forward.”
“I briefly met with Stammer when we landed after Game 5. I spoke with his agent yesterday very preliminary to see everyone’s schedules and see how quickly we can get to this. It is obviously a priority to see if we can get this done.”
Q: “Is there any doubt in your mind that you can resign him?”
“I am very hopeful.”

You’d better get it done or I’m walking.
That’s good to hear. I’m not sure what this team’s identity would be without stammer. I almost wonder if it’s time to blow it all up if he leaves. That being said, i really hope he’ll sign a team friendly contract because we obviously have some holes that need to be filled.
I feel like anytime he says something related to roster management the opposite happens, so we’ll see lol
If stammer is gone or coop apologizes for his comments after the game I’m taking a break from the bolts for awhile
Priority #1: Re-sign Stamkos and make sure he retires here. If we’re absolute ass and he wants to cup chase in a year or two, I’m all for it. But you let him go, we lose our most important leader.
Priority #2: Get Cernak off this team. Cernak has a full 3 year NTC kicking in next year, which means JBB has one offseason to find a home for him.
Stamkos is 34 years old and has been in NHL since he was 18 iirc. Expiring contract is 8.5 mill AV. I wouldn’t think you’d sign him for same AV number. Big question to me is how long does he want to play. You just don’t mortgage your future on a 34 year old player who has 16 years under his belt. If you do you’re in Pittsburgh and Capitols area: too old and too expensive.
Okay. This is exactly what you want to hear, but it’s exactly what he is going to say. This is the part that makes me nervous:
> The aim is for him to continue to play on a **contending Tampa Bay Lightning team** going forward.
Front load a contract, let him play how long he wants.
Not looking good based on this article. “Very hopeful” is a cop out way of saying you’re not going to make it a priority.

Man the Hedman/Stamkos extensions on the same day are going to hit like crack this summer
Am I the only one who would rather see Stammer retire a Bolt than have a Cup winning team for the next few years?
Dudes given us everything, back to back cups, his heart and soul. I can’t think of anything that would be more rewarding than seeing that jersey raised in the rafters even if it requires a few more years of subpar bolts hockey.
A lot of teams have had to watch their hometown hero retire with far less to celebrate.
I’d be elated if he took 6.5M. It’d free up 2M for our defense.
With our cap problems, we cannot offer in excess of 8m BUT we could have a longer duration instead. 4y/26m would break out to 6.5m annually but carry him through to age 39. I know someone will offer him 9-10m but please Stammer, THINK OF YOUR PEOPLE HERE. My wife would leave me for you if it was just one hookup! We saw you grow up, win awards and cups. I love ya, man. Don’t go. Losing Vinny gutted me and this would be worse.
