[PuckPedia] If Dubois is bought out this year, is it 1/3 or 2/3 buyout? If the cup is awarded June 23, they cannot buy him out until after he turns 26, meaning 2/3 buyout. If cup is awarded before June 22, they could potentially buy him out before he turns 26, making it a 1/3 buyout.

This is a dark narrative. He under performed the first season of a new contract; story as old as time.
He still put up 40 points. We know we should expect 60 points out of him.

At the very least, we need to give him a season to rebound so that his trade value increases…. And get him to waive his no/move clause.

Buyouts sound good in theory, but ask Minnesota about dead money on your cap.

There’s just no way Blake buys him out before he turns 26, he’d be killing any chance he’d have with any other front office in off chance they fire him soon. Maybe the next GM would buy him out but theyre not gonna fire Blake and hire a new GM before June 22. We’re either stuck with his full hit for the foreseeable future, or maybe the worse buyout option later down the road.

Wasn’t bad enough to be bought out after a year. Give him another failed season or 2 before you get serious about that

  5. I think buying him out, sends a terrible message to the other players as well. This is a Vegas mentality, and I don’t want to become them.

I’m more than happy to give him another season to see if he figures it out, with new coaching and management in place.

Putting him on the 3rd like from the start was a mistake. When he was on the top line recently when Kopitar was out, he looked really good.

Give him another year with a new chance and a new system.

Was curious if LA would go all Denver Broncos and eat the deadcap.

There’s no shot we’re buying him out. It’s in the teams best interest to make him work. That isn’t what fans want to hear, but it’s true. Getting him consistent line-mates and a coach who can motivate him with a new system is our best shot.

I’m not making any excuses for his performance this season, but this is the best way forward. We buy him out now, we’re fucked for the foreseeable future. Best chance is to try and make him work.

Call me crazy, but we should probably try utilizing his skill set and put him on a line he has chemistry with before all of this.

PLD has his issues but let’s be real here. One he was utilized like crap, let’s get a new coach and system and I think he could be a worth it still. 2nd the fan base is using him as the whiping boy, this team and organization has great potential but management has failed to utilize these resources correctly. PLDs season is a symptom not the cause of this team’s woes. Buying him out is not what fixes this.

ITT: A bunch of people acting like a player in a 3C role and putting up 40 points is a bad thing. Meanwhile they are putting the sole blame on him for The Kings absolutely falling backwards into the playoffs and starting a goalie games 1-3 who has the worst track record and was a former teammate to a majority of the team we faced in the first round.

Back to the crazy Dubois mob mentality talk. He’s not the problem. It’s the way the kings play and how they played him this season.
