Today we’ll be talking about Olli Juolevi, and whether or not he’s played his final few games as a member of the Vancouver Canucks, as Jack Rathbone, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Quinn Hughes seem to be ahead of him on the depth chart. We’ll also be discussing Travis Green’s comments about Juolevi’s play during training camp.

  1. At this point i think him and rathbone are interchangeable. During the draft i remember really wanting Chychrun. Chychrun has turned out to be quite the player hasn’t he..

  2. As a London Knights fan it kinda sucks seeing what happened to Juolevi, in your opinion Canucks fans is he still salvageable if hebgets more playing time on another team or is he a lost cause after all these years?

  3. I waited and was hopeful but, He never showed up. I noticed that I can not replay games without having to join espn. I will miss hockey and am looking forward to hearing about Rathbone so I guess I will check here more often.

  4. Could've had Tkachuk, McAvoy, Sergachev, Chychrun, DeBrincat, Fox or even Sam Girard, Hronek…yikes that's a bad pick at #5. At least OEL is a Canuck, right?

  5. Send him down to minors. Just don’t rescue him(Benning) and screw up what Green is doing. Putting the best team forward.
And yes, we should of drafted Mathew Tkachuk(No.6) who was clearly projected by all analysts as the logical choice for VAN. Draft best player.

  6. I saw him in junior. I never knew what the hype about him being a first rounder. He was "nice" in the much slower paced junior hockey, but at the NHL level, you need speed and the about the process the play so much faster.

  7. For every Petey and Hughes, there are Virtanen and Juolevi. Just to say aside from the "TOP" 2 or 3 picks every year, NHL draft is a crapshoot. Picking Bo at 9th and Brock at 23rd were great picks; but don't give JB too much credit as a scout genius.

  8. He is duuuuuunzooooo. Abysmal. The whole showing, with camp being the crescendo to an existentially pointless career. He joins the pantheon of fever dream ghosts in Canuck uniform that will forever induce nausea in the hearts of fans at mere mention, until ultimately nullified within the fading imprisoned memories of those cursed enough to have witnessed moments like “what is Pettersson doing? Oh it’s not a zero” and “is it possible for a shrug to become embodied and learn to skate in inverse-time… why yes unless my eyes do deceive”

  9. When Jalen Chatfield was inserted into the lineup instead of Joulevi about 10 times last season, that was a huge red flag. Especially since Chatfield was far less expensive being a random free agent signing as opposed to a 5th overall pick.

  10. The Rathbone pick makes up for the juolevi failure. It all worked out just fine, rathbone gonna be a star. Can’t get it right every time. I’m fine with juolevi being a bust because rathbone makes up for it.

  11. He was exactly the same in his first trading camp in Victoria dead last by far & gave up laying behind the net with a couple of laps still to go ! I don’t care if he had superstar talent ( which he doesn’t ! don’t know what Benning saw to get him to pass on Tkachuk the consensus 5 th pick ? ) he doesn’t have the heart to even be a valuable player in the NHL total bust of a top draft pick!

  12. Juolevi to Jokerit, calling it now, he'll then break the hell out in Russia and the Canucks will look like idiots, again.

  13. Can’t give up on him he’s 23 years old he’s still got a chance to prove himself in preseason

  14. I think Benning was mesmerized by that world juniors where Juolevi was a top pairing Finnish D, playing with (including PP1) that top line of Pulijarvi, Aho and Laine, jeez any defenseman would have looked good and sure enough those guys made him look better than he is.

  15. Again when scouting Juolevi how did Canucks scouts not notice Tkachuk was on best line in junior hockey on London Knights . Virtanen's career with Canucks looks like hall of fame compared with Juolevi .

  16. The two biggest blights on Canuck drafting in the Benning era, are Juolevi and Virtanen. Irrespective of the legal issues for JV, he pretty much played himself off the team. Sadly, it looks like OJ is going to do the same thing.

  17. i always liked juolevi and rooted for him, but it's obvious at this point he's a bust. he has shown basically nothing since being drafted. the most you can say is he's had a good pass or been in the right position here or there.

  18. Dude's getting paid $750,000…. I feel like, can you not spend $250,000 on the best personal trainer in the world and get into flipin' shape? Do you not realize this is your last chance?
Heck, hire some big mean ex-biker to yank you out of bed at 5am, chase you to the gym and taser you if he thinks you're not working hard enough.
Or, ya know… surround yourself with people who will push you. 23 yrs old… you got a lot of life ahead of you, will it be 10 more years of hockey… or 10 more months.

  19. Juolevi hasn’t been given the right opportunity, I’d have him on the third pair rather than rathbone.
