The New York Islanders Need to Make Changes but Who Is Most Likely to Be Moved?

The New York Islanders have announced that GM Lou Lamoriello and coach Patrick Roy will address the media Friday, but what will they say?

Plus, we discuss why it’s time to break up the Islanders roster and make changes or this team will continue to settle for mediocrity. Will Lou make these changes or will he double down on this roster yet again? If he won’t make the changes, will ownership step in and make changes instead?

Plus we discuss three players the Isles could most logically move to free up cap space and improve the roster.

All this and more on today’s Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

  1. We k ow that this team is in deep s… but we all know who is guilty and until he is there, nothing good will happen. …..LOU MUST GO……we don't need to listen he's crap. only if he is leaving

  2. Perhaps Lou is going to name Chris as the new GM while he stays on as president. All I know for sure is I won't be happy after Yoda does his light-on-details media event.

  3. Keep mclean and Riley out of the FA or RFA get rid of everyone else. If I'm going to lose why pay top $ to do that? I rather have minor league players and a great pick in the draft. It's clear ownership knows nothing about this fan base. It's all just business to them.

  4. Good morning team. Gil, we can speculate as to what Lou is going to say, but with him, we never really know. Honestly, I'm hoping he's going to say his goodbyes, and FINALLY he is going to give up hockey for the good life. We'll all wait and see I'm sure. I think it's time to start building my fast skaters Islander team. For now, who cares if they will have limited stick handling skills. That stuff can be coached. Remember is '72, when we literally had nothing? Time to get back to that. It only took until 1975 for that team to make the playoff, and they went to the conference finals! I'm okay with getting back to that. We miss the playoffs for 3 years, then we terrorize the league for the next ten years. What a great time it will be!! Right about now, I hear everyone saying, "dream on Tony." Everyone have a great day and enjoy the weekend. See everyone on Monday. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

  5. I wanted this group to win the cup ! I really like this team . But reality is, changes need to be made . Just found you subd and you do a great job !

  6. Gm Gil. Assuming little or no change, hard to imagine this team doing substantially better next year. I am expecting both Martin and Clutterbuck to not return. Beyond that, not much else. the long terms of Lee, Barzal, Mayfield, and Ingval will run their course and this team will flounder. Until attendance plunges, ownership will not do much.

  7. It’s funny how everyone thinks it’s Lou’s fault, is it his fault two goals were scored in the third period, it’s not easy to build a team, and even if you build a good team there is no guarantee that you will win, you could be the. Best gm in the league and still lose
Also I like that Lou doesn’t talk too much
Also as far as faith in the playoffs I would put my faith in my veterans it’s not a time to bring in experiments in the middle of a playoff series

  8. Agreed. U have to play the young guys to get experience and learn from their mistakes. I remember Barzal touching the puck while still in the penalty box and look at him now. Growing pains. Have to invest in the youth. Why draft iskhakov if your never gonna play him. Let’s go isles management.

  9. As a season ticket holder, I attended approx 35 of the 42 games played at UBS this year. Gauging fan reactions, I can confidently state that with the exception of the upper deck section behind the net where Isles defend twice, there are a lot of hardcore fans staying home. At one point, Roy indicated they needed to play better at home as "our fans have been very patient". Sure they have, because the fans that are showing up are more into the "game experience" at UBS than the outcome on the ice. The hard core, who would be booing this team for too many no shows, aren't at the game. Despite lack of hardcore support, they sold out about 75% of their games and the other games were only 1K or so shy. Add the revenue from the concerts and now this shopping mall opening up, the owners don't feel any pressure to make changes. Most likely LL may tinker around the edges and bring in a player or two that more fits Roy's puck possession game.

  10. Hi Gil, I am really at the point where I don’t care anymore what the islanders do. Just general in sports or like baseball with all the new rules. Sports are not the same anymore 🎉 one good thing for Scotty he bought partial Knicks tickets 🎫 and doing very well selling them. Next year looking to do full season with the Knicks and maybe the rangers 🎉 Mets and Islanders you can’t make money 💰

  11. Lou , Trotz and all don't trust young players , another affect of this is that , vets playing in rough stretches never held accountable
Which is a reason we are never comfortably in a playoff spot .

  12. Without Lou Gone next season is a lost season already. Ledecky and Malkin need to be active as owners and not just worrying about the Islanders Real Estate projects. We as Fans deserve better.

  13. I do think they’ll be some changes this Season, even though Lou is staying. This season exposed the frailties this Team has. He has to move on from some fan favorites,to right this ship.

  14. I say total rebuild bc the timeline won't work otherwise
The young players prime won't coincide w any current players now, it's a total mess

  15. 100% Agree re: maybe considering trading Palmieri and definitely trading Pageau, Lee (probably need to retain salary), and Nelson. Need to load up on some draft capital and be bad (not Milbury era bad) for a few years before bouncing back.

  16. Good 🛌, Gil, how are you? Usually, I listen to you in the 🌄 , but I left my 📱 at 🏡. It's going to be interesting to hear what both Lou Lamoriello and Patrick Roy has to say. I hope Ishkakov stays with The Islanders. If he goes, needs to get his feet somehow. I think they're going to break up the current team,, I CAN FEEL IT. I'm currently watching Game 3 of 1980 Finals, and it's the very first Stanley Cup Final game at Nassau Coliseum, and Trots just scored, and so did Boss. They need to go for youth, speed; however, they will definitely need some experience. Let's see what happens come Draft Day. HAPPY 🎂, RON HEXTALL. I think his daughter works for TBS 🏒. Hear from you Monday, Gil, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.

  17. Same crap e ola from this team……..Your ideas on the other hand Gil, are valid common sense moves to be made!…Get faster…Get bigger…Get younger, these are obvious needs for this team to me, and i am a MO when it comes to Hockey!, but Ownership seems indifferent!…..I like Roy!, and i am hoping he brings in his own people and is allowed to assist in the molding of a better product than they are putting on the ice now……….Bottom line……..The team must be making money or changes would be made!……………. Great conversation Gil, well done!.
