  1. I agree with the shakeup predictions. Coaching has to change, and the core isn't living up to expectations. Marner and Tavares just aren't producing the results to justify their cap hit.

With a healthy Woll, new leadership behind the bench/back office, and $15-20m in new skaters, I think the Leafs can turn things around.

That said, I don't think there's any more second chances left. If these trades and leadership changes are a bust, it could set the team back until a full rebuild.

  2. Ship Marner off for sure. Get a decent dman but they’d be better off if they could get a good forward who has some grit. Like Matthew Tkachuk. Teams that already have enough grit to spare, so can take a soft player like Marner and not be hurt by it come playoffs. I’d be talking to damn near every team, trying to get a steal somewhere. Marner for Jack Hughes? 😅
Heck, or Quinn Hughes. Or Boeser. I’d be looking at every team and looking at taking a player who can score but who also isn’t soft as shit.

  3. You can make fun of habs all you want but their cup runs have had varying levels of success in the last 15 years and when they went all in we knew that finals team was the height before the team would be gutted. Leafs just don’t give any team anxiety in they may pull upsets in playoffs.

  4. Get rid of all the core 4, gut the team and fire the coaches. Start completely from scratch. Ofc they won't. They will have more of the same.

  5. At the beginning of the year, when I saw Samsonov was still a Leaf, I said "oh crap!!!" He's so bloody inconsistent. He has had some good games, but that's expected for all goalkeepers. From the "get go", I said that Toronto does not have all the pieces in place to win the cup. When you look at history, Stanley cup champions have outstanding goal tending 9 out of 10 times. To say the least, I was disappointed with not getting a high calibre goal tender prior to the beginning of the 23/24 season. Sammy's style eludes me. He fancies himself as a mind reader, in that he'll throw himself in the direction where he thinks the scorer will be going. When you do this, and you're wrong, you place yourself way out of position. Also, he's always flopping around like a fish out of water. While watching him play, I find myself yelling at the TV "Get up, Get up!!!"
Lastly, I think he may have arthritis in his stick hand. How many times has he lost his stick during play??

Also, the defence needs some coaching. When there's a loose puck in front of their goal, they seem to always want to play the puck. In my opinion, let the goalie take care of the puck and have the defence knock down the opposing player. Most of the successful teams have defence-men who kick butt in front of their own net.

I'm all for Sheldon not getting canned. He does a good job, but who is in charge of keeping the defensemen defending?

I think that Toronto can work with tightening up the defence, but PLEASE get a decent goal tender for 24/25. Someone with a recent Save % of 0.92 (minimum) averaged over at least 30 games.

  6. Didn't Dubas try and trade Marner and it was canned by the Toronto Snr Management? I don't think Dubas was the reason the core 4 were together.

  7. As a bruins fan i was pissed when tavares signed with toronto. I thought he would have been a perfect fit for the bruins. And logically i hated it for the leafs. I think they should have turned that team over to Matthews in his second year or so. If you could have signed Tavares for 2-3 years as a bridge then it would have been perfect. But its well past time to trade him, even if you get nothing back but spare parts youll be much better off by getting 11 million dollars off your books. Tavares was invisible all series, even game 2 he didnt dominate and the bruins arent that good. Id definitely trade marner but only if you get the right guy (and id take a gritty, 2 way forward if thats all i could get). But i wouldnt trade marner just to trade him. Nylander and Matthews are studs and you need to build around them. Woll is just okay to me so id still try to sign or trade for a goalie. Knies was one of the top 3 players for you and i thought he stepped up.

  8. Trade A. Matthews!!! He is not a player that will EVER take Toronto to the cup final! Get assets NOW before he gets hurt or down slides. Matthews lacks heart and grit! Could get some valuable assets in exchange.

  9. I AM SO SICK OF MARNER BEING THE ESCAPE GOAT…. The problem is 34, get rid of him .. all he cares about is his $16.5M contract and hitting the links as soon as he can, he has no leadership skills and is a proven no show in the playoffs. Problem is nobody in their right mind would take this cancer. Buy him out and rebuild around Domi, Woll, Nylander and Marner… the rest can go!

  10. This is NOTHING! Try being the few who watched the Leafs 1967 Cup win LIVE … and then endured 57 years! We came close in the quarters in 78 against the Islanders! Nada since …. this current Bruin hickup is nothing….

  11. Toronto won two games thanks to great goaltending and lost by one goal in OT… and you want to have a fire sale?! What’s wrong with you?

  12. My philosophy of hockey is that all you really need is an unbeatable goalie, a good defensive system and two nhl level goal scorers. So keep Mathews and get the best goalie in the world no matter what it takes and then get a really good defensive coach

  13. I was born in 1982 and have realized the leafs will not win a cup in my lifetime. I’m only 42 this year but still, they only ever showed promise back in the early 90’s and never again had a team like that

  14. Playoff Coach Needed…….Please apply. Can’t beat a playoff team. Teach Cover the Opps Player, don’t let them shoot. What the hell is standing there blocking shots. STOP them Shooting. 4 players in Front of Net, can’t get puck thru to goalie.

  15. As a Habs fan, I enjoy watching the yearly Leafs first round exit. I mean it never misses and there's a comedic side to it. However I recently saw a post that highlighted one playoff series win over the last nineteen (!) years.

I sat back and thought about it… and as much as seeing the "we want Florida's" and "since 67" memes are funny, it's really gotten sad. As fellow hockey fans I am now hoping you guys get rid of these losers (Matthews included) and get a nice run for once .

  16. I don't know why your all surprised.. I said 5 plus year's ago that they are going to have to pay too much for all those forwards and not enough left over for all around depth.

And here we are lol.. plus alot of them don't show up in the playoffs.

I'd rather pay a little less for players that only score 20-30 goals a season and have more of them that also play with will… Will is just as good as skill..

  17. Toronto just needs to return to the Norris Division. Get out of the Atlantic and stop playing Boston. 😛

  18. That’s just it your an 82 game entertainment team Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment nothing more a real owner is needed
