New York Rangers TRADE Alexandar Georgiev To Colorado Avalanche TRADE BREAKDOWN!

The New York Rangers traded Alexandar Georgiev to the Colorado Avalanche back in July of 2022 with the intention to make him their starting goaltender. In return, the Rangers got 3 draft picks two of whom look quite good.

  1. I liked geiorgiev but you knew he couldn't stay a back up , he deserved the starting spot somewhere. I never felt bad about the move.

  2. After his solid performance with us I knew heā€™d start somewhere and was really stoked for him that it would be with a cup contender. I think heā€™d also be playing a lot better if Colorado had a decent back up to pick up the slack. Heā€™s gassed. Halak had a shaky start for us but picked things back up post all star. Was also hesitant about quicky at first but of course we know now that it was our best off season pick up. So glad heā€™s achieved some milestones with us and with his childhood team. LA disrespected the shit out of him and now theyā€™re paying for it with subpar goaltending in the playoffs.

  3. Bryce M-B just got recalled to Hartford Wolf Pack to play in 2nd round in playoffs and Max Barbashev was sent down.

  4. I mean he played his way out of the org and not in a positive way, so itā€™s really a wash

  5. Georgie isn't a terrible goalie but he was terrible in New York. Every time he was in net for the Rangers it was a coin flip. He won half the games and lost half the games. That's not a good enough record for even a backup goalie. At the end of the day he wasn't working out in New York. It would have been beneficial for the Rangers to just cut him from the roster. It made even more sense to get stuff for him.

  6. Not a player, but props to the rangers for allowing Kris Knoblauch to interview for the Oilers coach job. They could have kept him as the AHL coach but the waived his contract clause and look at him now.

  7. Geiorgiev is nowhere near the goaltender Igor or Quick is. Serviceable is where Iā€™d call him. Chris Drury has put together a winner in a short period of time. The Rangers need to step up defensively to get that cup win. šŸ† Igorā€™s play will be the deciding factor. They can do it

  8. They were going to lose G in the expansion draft. So there was no choice really. It's what could they get in a trade, not trade or no

  9. Besides the fact that he was/is an average goalie, he was never a great teammate nor locker room presence. He didnā€™t seem genuinely happy at the end of games when he wasnā€™t playing. He would some times not even high five or greet Igor after gamesā€¦Or it would be a quick tap of gloves and he would immediately turn around and go the other way. Never smiled at Igor nor genuinely congratulated him. He just seemed bitter. Not a team player for sure. Also, that altercation he had w DeAngelo, now looking backā€¦maybe Tony was the ā€œgoodā€guy in that incidentā€¦Good trade for the rangers for sure, didnā€™t need Georgie, it was going to be Igor all along. Backup goalies are a dime a dozen. They found a much better guy as backup, both on and off the ice in the locker room in Jonathan Quickā€¦plus they got three potentially serviceable prospects from that trade.

  10. This was just one of those mutually beneficial trades. Both teams won. I loved Georgiev's time here and I wish he had beaten the shit out of Deangelo

  11. Seems that both teams got what they needed out of this trade. Rangers got a few extra picks to help rebuild and provide long term depth, and the Avs got a serviceable goalie, a position that they had a severe need to fill. Avs continuing to the 2nd rd (and possibly beyond) in 2024 shows trade was beneficial for them.

Itā€™s possible it was a win-win for both teams, which is usually the best kind of trade. No need for one side to lose more than the other.
