Reviewing Oilers vs Canucks Game Two

I had a feeling this round would be a tougher watch as a fan. The Oilers were the better team through most of tonight’s game, so the right team won.

  1. “The ref just missed it”… mew mew: you’re a pathetic apologist for terrible reffing! They needed to huddle to discuss it. They ignored it.

  2. That blatant favouritism missed call on McDavid reminded me of Gretzky on Gilmour in 93'. Absolutely terrible.

  3. I keep seeing this series vicariously through the eyes of Arturs Silovs. For a guy that was chilling in the AHL not even a month ago, to see Connor McDavid steaming at you down the ice in a 2nd round playoff game has got to be one of two things – either the most thrilling and invigorating challenge you've ever had in your life, or the most terrifying nightmare you've ever had that takes the knees out from under you. But you know what? The kid's doing really good out there…Speaking of McDavid. I don't know if it was planned, but I suspect it was, and that it was a stroke of pure genius. He gets a pass across the VAN net, but he skates over it, leaving it for Ekholm who had a sneakier angle on the shot. This is what the Oilers do. I still think they are the most dangerous team in the West, and I'm actually impressed that the Canucks are playing them at the level they are…Yeah, this thing is going six, if not the whole seven…

  4. McDrai played like that because its must win road game, with drai nursing a minor injury. I expect regular lines with the oilers at home. Knob wont run mcdrai 25+ for 3-5 more games straight.

  5. Refs cooked tonight. The missed double minor on hughes. And no makeup call. You know who NHL wants in the conference final

  6. Lol yikes reading some of these comment threads reminds me why I decided to take a social media siesta for the duration of this series. Vibes, rancid. Takes, unhinged. Discourse, toxic. On both sides, btw. I may be an Oilers fan, but I am well aware that Oilers fans can be insufferable and deranged with the best of them. It's part of our charm. 🙂

But anyway, I fear McDrai and their reanimated corpses are going to be held together with naught but Gorilla glue and toothpicks by the end of this series at the rate this is going. They were obviously incredible tonight, but a game like this does not exactly invite confidence for long-term success of the team. McDavid's limbs (the McLimbs?) and Draisaitl's vital organs WILL explode playing ~28 minutes a game on the regular. So I am begging, BEGGING, any other forward on the roster not named Hyman to do literally anything offensively going forward. The Oilers depth was good all* year. It was demonstrably improved over previous years. But we are John Travolta Looking Around.gif looking for it right now.

    * We don't talk about October.

  7. Shannon, there's a simple argument: when the Ref's decide not to call 10 minutes worth of Penalties on the Oilers including the easiest 4 minute high stick in a 1 goal game… Deserve has nothing to do with it. Sutherland and Furlatt decided the outcome of this game.

  8. Refs did miss that McDavid high stick 100% however they also missed Hyman getting high sticked with 3 seconds left in the 1st and the fact that no one is talking about it annoys me. I can’t believe both calls were missed

  9. Last 2 seasons oilers double shifted their top line to get through the Kings, then had nothing left for rnd 2. This year they breezed through the first round, so this round 2 is the double shift, and they will be gassed if they make round 3. Oilers haven’t unleashed the goonery yet. Expect that if they start to lose.

  10. I can’t believe how little people are talking about the reffing. Some major momentum shifts occurred when either soft calls were called against the Canucks, and no calls for the Canucks.

  11. Stop complaining about bounces, bad play, and bad officiating. They happen all the time to every team, and I didn't see any Canuks fam complaining about the fluke goals in game 1. The fact is the Oilers have a gear that other teams cannot rev up to when they turn it on. Their goalie was their only weak spot last year. He is their only weak spot this year. The Canucks need to exploit that, and if they cannot they will not win the series.

And I don't mean you Hockey Guy, I mean all your followers.
