We mourn the loss of Ron Ellis, a lifetime Leaf whose legacy is woven into the fabric of the blue and white. Ron played his entire NHL career for Toronto. He was one of only five Maple Leafs to skate in more than 1,000 games for the club while also scoring the fifth most goals in team history. Ron was a true gentleman of the game who will be deeply missed.
Our thoughts are with his loved ones.

I have personal reasons to feel this just a little more keenly. Ron was a hero of mine. Rest easy.

Did he play on the team in 95?
I remember playing NHL 95 on the SNES with an Ellis on the leafs.
But if so, he would have been…**check notes** 49?

Had the honour of meeting him a few weeks before the Leafs played their last game at Maple Leaf Gardens. Seemed like a classy gentleman. RIP.

Sad – I got to meet him once at a workshop I was attending for work. He was super nice, took time to pose for pictures and sign photos he had brought with him.

Met him at a card show about 15 yrs ago. He was just walking around. I approached him and asked him for an auto. He smiled and said sure you bet. Then a UD rep ran up to us and told me I had to buy 10 packs to get an auto. Ron’s face fell and he apologized profusely saying he wasnt able to sign for me. I told him not to worry about it then told the rep to go fuck himself what an asshole. I felt worse about making him feel bad than not getting the auto. You could really see the disappointment in his face. Really nice guy. RIP Ron

Should have his number retired by the team. Ron was integral to those 60s cup team’s. Rest in Power Mr. Ellis
