[Iain MacIntyre] Elias Pettersson was the player Canucks presented to media for day-off press conference. Not sure who arranged it or if Rick Tocchet was involved, but that accountability is a positive sign. One small step.

I really hates EPs body language at the presser. Is he normally like this? Seemed like his confidence was completely shot
This gives off bigtime Naslund in 2003 vibes. Thousand yard stare and emotional disposition. He’s likely feeling the weight of the world right now.
Sick of hearing the “I know I can be better” lines from him. It’s been 5 months of this. Show up.
I remember when early Petey wasn’t scoring, he’d at least be doing everything he could to get the puck back or create a play. Now if something doesn’t work he bends over in frustration before continuing to play. I wish the best for him and pray he comes back to form, but anyone who says it’s unfair to be concerned about him is a sausage.
He needs to see a sports psychologist.
I still believe in my boy Petey, lets get Hog and Pod on his line and get him going, plenty of hockey left to play.
Can’t find it online, where did you guys happen to see it?
I think we need to start having practices with fans in the stand constantly screaming, to help Petey get used to playing under pressure
I’ll go, fuck it
small steps were needed in february. need him to take the actual leap now. enough talk
I just don’t get how Petey fits in here. He can’t play the style the Miller line does. He can’t play the style the Lindholm line does. We’ve tried every combination of our best wingers on his line and they couldn’t get it to work. He can’t win a third line matchup against a team notorious for not being very deep with third line calibre wingers. What do we even expect here now.
Didn’t we have this exact same story during the regular season when he was doing jack shit?
It’s time to change it up. Give him Lekky and Pods and let that line loose.
wow, if there was ever a real life example of “I’m only here so I don’t get fined”, thats it. Going to be a long 8 years. Jesus man, what happened to the happy go lucky rookie who was great with the media. Guess the market broke him.
Petey is either going to have a MacKinnon like “fuck you I am that guy” or fade away into a Marner like playoff non factor.
This team got Boeser back from losing his dad and turned Miller’s anger into the emotional leader of this team. We can get the alien back.
He seems so indifferent and checked out.
Devoid of all emotion. I think he’s given up…
Hopefully Sedin’s talk some sense into him. They will probably know more than anyone what he’s going through they’ve seen it all. Say what you want about them but they battled 100% every time.
For a guy who demanded playoffs or no contract extension from the management, his body language is saying join Kuzmenko in Bali.
He has dropped off so dramatically since the all star game that I almost wonder if there isn’t an off-ice issue of some sort. This is the worst he has looked as an NHL player.
That was painful to watch.. I can’t help but feel Petey is struggling with his mental health. Let’s face it, many people are these days. Even though professional athletes get lots of resources, being at that age away from family and friends can be super isolating which can make things worse when things aren’t going well “at work”.
He’s in a bit of an impossible situation with the media circus and high expectations of himself so he might be spiraling with no safety net. It’s not like he can just take stress leave in the middle of round 2. I hope he can rebound and start gaining some confidence back. It’s obvious he wants to help the team and succeed, but beyond hockey, I hope the guy is ok.
I could see him blaming his linemates a little bit, but that’s wrong to do, if so. Even still, I’ve seen Mikky shoot the puck when Petey was wide open, so I blame his linemates a bit.
He’s coming in to his maturity, and we will see positive change from this experience.
All these comments around his body language, HE’S ALWAYS LIKE THIS. People just didn’t read into it this much because he was playing well before.
Canucks are paying him enough for him to at least have to answer some hard questions. If he’s not doing what he’s paid crazy money to do…
I’m gonna go the opposite direction from most commenters.
I liked Petey’s game last night.
If you go back through his shifts, more often than not when there was a play to be made, he was making it.
In the defensive zone he made multiple nice plays to clear pucks out, and while this isn’t duly noticed all the time, little things like that add up to win games.
Every time he makes a good offensive play, the guys on the other end of it are not capable of making things happen. It’s hard to overstate this.
Let’s go through some numbers:
Nils Hoglander – 90 points in 221 career NHL games. 1 assist in 8 NHL playoff games.
Ilya Mikheyev – 131 points in 270 games. 4 points in 29 playoff games (2 goals).
Sam Lafferty – 83 points in 289 games. 3 points in 20 playoff games (1 goal).
Linus Karlsson – has never scored a point in the NHL.
Combined, his wingers have scored 3 goals in 57 NHL playoff games. That is enforcer level goal scoring production. It’s a joke!
And we’re on here having a discussion about Petey’s mental health?!? For shame, but also no shit!
I would be depressed too if I got my head smashed into the boards by Darnell Nurse as I was watching the puck make it’s way to die on the stick of Ilya Mikeyev for the 439th consecutive shift.
Get real, and get that outta here! As a fanbase we should have a better understanding of what’s going on out there, and we should be in this guy’s corner going into game 5 of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Petey is working hard out there, and he’s going to turn it around in a big way as soon as he gets a chance to play with NHL calibre offensive players. You can believe that.
Canucks in 6.
He can easily turn it around with a few goals and a series win against the Oilers. It’s not too late
It’s nothing even more pressure can’t solve
Something seemed to switch on in his head in the last 5 minutes of the game, flashes of EP40 suddenly appeared. It was a little too late for last night, but here’s hoping it carries into the next one.
Can’t remember the season…. But we played PIT at home one time and Petey stole the puck in the O zone and passed to Boeser who scored. The way Petey celebrated was fucking intense and I fucking loved it. He grabbed Brock – dude was ice cold. He’s a Scorpio and so am I and we can be intense sometimes. I want that Petey back.
I feel like he’s dealing with depression. Just an observation but I don’t see joy when they score or win, and he often looks vacant on the bench. He may be dealing with things we don’t know about.
Our boy is broken
Wow… putting the hockey aside this guy needs some help as a human right now. An elite star can’t perform when they’re head space is like this. I know he’s always been quiet and shy, but this is beyond that.
I wonder if it has anything to do with being pressured to sign that contract. He did seem pretty hesitant all year long and wanted to wait until the end of the season. Maybe there is a bit of regret now?! And now he’s just a little messed up from it. Whatever it is he really needs to talk this out with a psychologist.
