  1. I understand that goaltending has changed since I use to play Junior A in the early 2000’s. However, now that the position is pretty much filled with guys that are usually 6’2” – 6’6” tall even without skates, I find that they all revert back to their Novice days of playing, where they drop down in the half butterfly and try to make the big glove save. There is nothing more cringy to me, than a guy that is 6’6’’ on skates in the net, that stands up in warms up and in practice and stops the same shot with his shoulder, but yet lacks the discipline to do it in the game. The highlights of the NHL goals these days are littered with short side top shelf goals because goalies all go down too early. I am not suggesting that goalies should play a stand up style, I am just saying that the way the position is taught these days with the goalie sliding around on his knees, even when the puck is in the corner of the ice or behind the net, is used wayyyyyy tooooo much.

  2. The NHL is now almost to the point that every team uses 3 goalies. From watching the evolution of goaltending from the 70's which was stand up to the butterfly. The number of games a goalie's body can manage has dropped each season. So maybe the NHL and all pro leagues should add a roster spot for a 3rd goalie ? Just a thought.

  3. How bout some good Motown musicians on the mask next season!? And I mean like 50’s-70’s musicians, none of that crappy 90’s shit

  4. The first ever sellout? Not true, I mean in a larger arena sure, but Elmira has sold out many times (when they were the enforcers) the Danbury whalers sold out a lot, and the Black Bears have sold out 2-3 times. And I'm not counting Delaware.

  5. I listen to a lot of hockey podcasts, however, I am always finding myself coming back to this podcast! You two are so organic and down to earth, I feel like I’m just shooting the breeze with my buddies. Thank you for the content sir.

  6. Two sports hernias and a torn labrum before I was 32 . Butterfly just kills the body. 30 Is the new 40 in goaltending .

  7. No no no Trav, Elmira got impounded because they didn’t have the proper booster seats on board for Nick Gullo.😉😂

  8. Warrior makes excellent gear. My chesty is a Warrior X3E and I love it. Light, breathable, and mobile. It's not super bulky like some of the others, and it gives me great mobility. I'm a fan of Warrior gear.

  9. Thank you for the short intro. Always hated flipping past the first 2 minutes of the show to get to the point. Love the idea of the 8 goalie minimum in the nhl. I believe there is a rule on the hight of the knee slider pertaining to thickness. But yes, a thicker one is definitely easier on the hips.

Not that you give a damn, but imma gonna tell you anyway. Had my debut start in the highest division of beer league our small community has last night. Only 5 guys on our team showed up (damn kids and their spring break). We got hammered, it was ugly. Ended up breaking my finger in the first and let up 10 goals. Not how I wanted my season to start, but the show must go on. Played again later that day with my old team (won 3-1), play again tonight, tomorrow and Thursday, rinse and repeat.

  10. I can help you out with the 40’s.

    40 Tuukka Rask
    41 Jocelyn Thibault
    42 Robert Esche
    43 Martin Biron
    44 Chris Pronger
    45 Jonathan Bernier
46 Pat Jablonski (2 games with Phoenix in March & April of 97) *only two other NHL goalies have ever worn #46
    47 J.S. Giguere (with Hartford & Calgary)
    48 Daniel Briere
    49 Micheal Leighton

Couldn’t think of any goalies who wore #44, and after a deep dive I found that no NHL goalie has ever worn #48, so I cheated by putting some skaters down for those numbers. 😉

  11. I remember in the late 90s going to a Florida Panther game. 14 buck$ sitting in the top row. Just being at the game was highlight! But when the Red Wings came to town I was ready to pay $60 lower bowl. I was in high school, college so 60 dollars was a lot! Even these days i try to save an extra buck LoL. It would be cool to see you play sometime

  12. all my gear is ccm except for my pants and skates, but i catch myself looking at warrior gear often. and on the butterfly, stand up needs to be used more often. a 50/50 split between stand and butterfly, true hybrid not what current “hybrids” say they are

  13. It's an issue with the position/style. I had to have my hip surgery a few years ago because of playing beer league goalie.

  14. At 17 years old I had double hip surgery to shave my cam impingements and put my labrums back together. Now at 21 I’m starting to having knee problems. So I’d definitely agree that there is a problem going on right now in goaltending.

  15. I feel awful for the Newfies… just a few days ago a Cessna crashed into a cemetery, over 500 dead and they keep finding bodies.

  16. My son is a 14 year old goalie. When he was young (maybe 11) I modified his pads to add thickness to the knee block and we bought the thickest knee pads we could find. The exact reason for it was as you described at 17:50.
