Griffins have something the Ice Hogs don't, speed. The Hogs defense has greatly improved, but the Griffins were able to zip around past the hogs several times, which led to them being out of position and getting scored on. When the Hogs got the puck, they had someone on them almost immediately which led to many being picked. Several times I saw defense out of position and they couldn't get to the puck in time, leading to having to retreat from the offensive zone, then getting swarmed into their own zone by the speedy Griffin payers. Ice Hogs have improved quite a bit this year, but against the top teams they still struggle, and that appears to be that the other teams have some really fast skaters. It almost seems like the other teams don't want Gust to get #100, they are always on top of him when he gets the puck.
Not sure why they didn’t start Stauber after a shutout and the first goalie goal in AHL history.. go with the guy that’s confident and on a hot streak. Commesso is improving but I genuinely think Stauber has higher potential. Also the defense is dramatically improved. Kaiser, Del Mastro, Allan AND Rinzel could all be Blackhawks. Get rid of Seth Jones awful contract, trade Murphy and bring up the young guys. Trade for a veteran or just make Vlasic the top guy. He sure looks like it already.
