the problem with Keefe was that he was a former player, and a grinder, meaning he came with a mindset that star players were above him, no way he could be their boss. whereas, someone like berube is respected by stars and grinders.
I hear we need better defense, better goal tending but with the core making so much money the team is handcuffed. Marner and Tavares last year of contract won't get much just a salary dump. Mathews and Nylander you would get the most.

I'm a Bruin fan, and Toronto was the much better team in the series. The difference was the goaltending. Until Toronto fixes that, any other trades amount to shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. I know Ullmark will be traded this summer, and T.O. should try and get him. I think the money works with an Ullmark & Carlo for Marner deal, which could be decent for both sides if they are willing to deal within the divison.
poor Trev, his undoing was Goudreau walking, then Shanaplan hands him the same issue with Mitch. trade value, etc. everything 'circles back' to Marner. Petterson would be ideal, Jenner and Provorov would fill a couple of gaping holes, no way for a 30 year-old goalie. Talbot for 2 or 3 years. they should over-pay for Pesce. still enough for Duclair, Stephenson or Zadarov

Teams win and lose as a unit. This year the entire unit wasn't good enough. Blaming one player doesn't make any sense. Getting the most out of each player is a coach's job. If you don't understand that then team sport isn't for you.
Obtain a solid starting Goalie, then 2 solid stay at home Defencemen.
Trade Morgan and Mitch, Sign Zadorov Tanev and Montour.
Change the Coach, next over hall the defense, goalies
Now that Berube is coach I wonder if the Leafs revisit a Colton Parayko trade.
If Tavares and Marner waive they can be retained on or even 2x retained on to fit any team even cap restricted teams since they both only have 1 year left on contract paying other teams to retain won't be hard.
Nylander and Marner will cry when Berubie starts yelling at them.

Leafs aren't wasting cap space on 3 goalies.
Changes:
1) Move Mathews to the wing
2) JT play 3rd line Centre
3) Trade Marner or implement a Marner rehabilitation program focusing on back checking every rush
4) move Morgan by protecting him in the 3 to 5 defence man position
Yes it's the core 4 but look at the Oilers the bottom 6 are not panning out.
Leafs need to get a good bottom 6 in place.
I'm convinced they hired him so quick to set the tone in order to help push Marner into trade. Sorry Marner no more coddling, seek shelter elsewhere 🍼
Guys lets be real here. The core 4 will be back again next season. Tavares comes off the books at the end of next season , they will do their tap dancing to sign some new players , Marner wont sign his extension until the end of next season just like Nylander.
The leaf dont need both 11M players gone. they really do just need 1. and thats going to be Tavares next season.
What the leafs will do is look for the pieces they need to go for it in 2025-2026.
They will sign a guy like Brett Pesce, They will get a goalie like a Kuemper(with salary retained) or a guy like Chhris Driedger , a guy who can platoon with Woll.
And they will resign one of Domi or Bertuzzi , probabaly Domi. and they will again try and do their best to have as deep of a roster as possible.
Without Marner, leafs don't make the playoffs. If Berube thinks he can yell and scream at his players they will just tune him out.
