[Meghan Angley] Jared Bednar on Gabriel Landeskog: “I’m optimistic and hopeful.” Bednar didn’t think he was close to return for the postseason, but he hopes that he can play again. “I think that, that can happen.”

I love Landeskog to death but it’s approaching put up or shut up time. We can’t go another season without a clear captain. His absence has been felt both this series and the series against Seattle.
If he’s good to go, fucking awesome. If not, the team *needs* to move forward. That cup contender window isn’t open forever. It’s harsh but that’s how it is. We can’t waffle about another season waiting on whether a man’s knee heals.
All that is to say, I desperately want to see him play and Bednar strikes me as someone who wouldn’t be saying this if Landeskog wasn’t basically a sure thing come the start of next season.

We need clarity sooner rather than for the offseason

Pretty bummer takes here. This team wins another cup with a healthy Landy

Definitely sounds like it will never happen.

Doesn’t matter if he can play enough. What matters is if he can play at first line forward level. You can say what you want about the value of his leadership but the fact of the matter is that he will only be a liability who kills all of our depth if he’s only ever a 4th line character grinder. That’s not the fate he deserves with everything he’s done for this organization. It’s highly probable the best way forward for all parties involved if he just goes into LTIR retirement

They need to make MacKinnon or Makar the captain if Landy isn’t back for the first game of the season. It’s a weird mentality that we’re constantly playing with an “incomplete” team

It’s over for Landy isn’t it? This sounds like Bednar being as positive as possible given a grim outlook

I still believe. It’s summer, we have only to wait and see, what’s the downside in hope, my friends?
