Phillies still have the best record in baseball at 31 and 14 but tonight they’ll look to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time since April 23rd and April 24th it’s been that long meanwhile the Nationals they’ve hit a skid after a stretch of some pretty good baseball by Washington the last uh they’ve lost the last two to the lowly white socks earlier this week here we go here the bottom of the first and Kyle schwarber will lead off in the air down the left field line Jesse Winker is over and he makes the catch schwarber retired on one pitch and it’ll bring up JT Ruto here to the wall Vargas heads for third being waved home he will score to tie the game and into second with a line drive double into the Gap and a run batted in is KT Ruiz that’s his first double of the year his sixth run batted in a one-1 game two men in scoring position for schwarber and the Nationals are going to play their infield in against Kyle that one gets away and here comes Marsh a wild pitch and the Phils retake the lead down to third goes edmundo Sosa little dribbler how about that how about that Sosa will score schwarber gets an RBI it’s three to one all right so Zack Wheeler has the lead again this time it’s a two-run lead Philly’s now with three runs in the first two innings CJ Abrams top of the order for the Nationals and he was the number two overall high school player behinds Bobby Whit Jr he’s down looking on strikes that’s four strikeouts for wheeler out to left field slicing toward the line Marsh got a good jump and he’s going to run it down two outs here’s manessis the pitch swung on and bounced to third B takes the second hop long throw he got there’s a one two three inning for Zack Wheeler we’re going to the bottom of the third here at Citizens Bank Park Phillies lead 3-1 and the Phillies try to work a little two out magic Here and Now Marsh who walked and scored his first time 01 pitch is pulled down the right field line towards the corner that’s going to be in there for an extra base hit as it’ll roll to the wall St Will Roll home castios into third and it’s a double for Brandon Marsh and the Phillies expand their lead it’s four to one all right hits just keep coming three-run lead now for Zack wheeler as he gets back to work here against Joey Gallow swing and a miss five strikeouts for wheeler at 70 now on the year it’s the beauty of what Zack Wheeler is able to do I mean talk about improv I mean this is a nasty breaking ball I mean drops off the table and Gallow has no answer for him the Nationals Trail four to one three pitches and two out here in the top of the fifth inning for wheeler CJ Abrams coming into this atat his last hit was in the third inning Sunday in Boston and he gets one to the wall for a two- out double and that’s his 19th extra base hit now Eddie Rosario who’s popped to shallow left and fouled out to the left fielder Abrams on the Move Rosario right center and the ball’s on the ground castanos couldn’t hold it the Nets have scored and it’s a 42 ball game an amazing at bat by Eddie Rosario and it pays off in an RBI hit as the Nationals will call on right-hander Jacob Barn for the bottom of the sixth inning Nationals Trail 4 to2 Jake irvan rough start did Pitch better and retired the final seven to finish his outing but over five innings he allows five hits four runs probably pitching well enough to go out there for another inning but the pitch count at 93 a lot of those are stressed too there’s a lot of guys on base early on absolutely castanos with a liner Vargas there Nationals too out to center field this will be helpful as Roos is under it and makes the catch out to second on one hop Bryson stot has it Jose Alvarado starting to loosen up guess the thought is Alvarado eth inning out to right field right at castios and the inning is over exactly 100 pitches for Zack Wheeler it’s time to stretch and give him a hand it’s 4 to2 phills on to the eighth inning we go and so does Zack Wheeler he takes the mound for at least the first hitter of this eighth inning Victor robbles the right-handed batter that one’s out to shallow left center field Sosa backing up says he has it waves off brother Marsh and he makes the catch one out and here comes Rob Thompson and this crowd of 44,5 s when Rob takes the baseball from Zack Wheeler and he takes that stroll I think they’re going to erupt you should give him plenty of love because this is a great effort and he’s one of the best pitchers in all baseball and he deserves it there they go yep love it now Jeff Hoffman will get a chance to try to close this one out we’re going to the ninth inning now it’s a 4-2 ball game Phillies lead it off the hands Hoffman’s goty they got to let him catch it any he one away Joey G’s coming up Hoffman delivers and it’s swung on and driven down the right side that’s going to be in for a base hit and the Nationals first baseman on his way into second he’s got a double shaking off the three strikeouts Joey Gallow what he does get extra base hits and it’ll bring the tying run to the plate for the Nationals that one served out toward second and stop will make the catch so that’s two popups on the infield and now Jesse Winker will be the batter Tal Fly ball right field ctios has room near the track on the track makes the catch and the ball game is over and the Phillies take game long over the Washington Nationals in front of a soldout crowd of 44,000 57 they win it tonight by a final score of 4-2
