  1. More of the same, importing “grit” and spinning wheels. Top 4 takes up half the cap, any increase goes to them and them alone, meanwhile they spackle together a bottom 6, goaltending and D corps cos there ain’t no dough for anyone else. Nothing happens until they break up the top of the lineup

  2. "Salary off the books"??? They are in a worse cap hell this coming season then last. At this point they only have 18.5M in cap space for this upcoming season. The only way an Ullmark trade (in division very rare) or Debrusk signing occurs is if something is done with the core 4/5. They will need to resolve the core 4/5 issue before any of this can happen. The Leafs hands are tied until then. So by that time it is very likely that these players will have moved on to other teams/options.

  3. Leafs wont get debrusk aint gunna happen, ullmark possibly but the chances of marner waiving his no move clause is slim to non

  4. DeBursk would be a good option if they can get him for Pennie’s on the dollar . Junkrok is no good and is expendable not o like the ancient Marner who is actually like an albatross around the neck of the Leavfes

  5. FLORIDA will pay more and they will throw in a fishing boat, golf clubs, and pool parties. He looks like Panther material.

  6. I take Debrusk over Marner in the playoffs, and I spend the savings on a goalie.
Marner being traded anywhere for picks/prospects and money freed up to do something like this… is a win.

  7. For $5 million the Leafs can get a way better player than Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi was fun in the playoffs as a swashbuckling pirate but beyond that he is slow and chippy at best.

  8. The concept of "A core four"; is only effective if you start with the goalie and then defense and then centre ice. I always felt that Keefe didn't have the goalie and defense that he needed for his system to properly work. So they fire Keefe but then people still complain about the core four? So which is it? Coaching or players? Trevling couldn't do much his first year because he needed to patch up some holes and evaluate. Now, Trevling has all these players leaving the team as UFA'S so he will have a ton of cash to bring in his choice picks. In a way, Keefe could have stayed on if the Leafs improved the goal tending position and the defense. Keefe's system might have shown huge results if he had quality goal tending and a quality defense.

  9. This is my targetted team and lines…
    Domi-Matthews-Marner
    Konecny(50% retained)-Tavares-Nylander
    Knies-Laughton-McMann
    Cowan/Holmberg, Kampf, Reeves

    Reilly-Pesce
    McCabe-Demelo
    Benoit-Deharnais

    Woll
    Driedger
    Hellberg
to me thats a deep team…. if things dont work out with goaltending you make a move at the deadline for a goaltender….

  10. My fellow Leaf fans… I know some of you may only watch casually and get most of your information through vlogs and Leafs media (Bell / Sportsnet)… but allow this long-time suffering Leaf's fan to be the first to say we need to stop thinking this ''era'' of the Leafs can move forward. Shanahan was a great leader in the restructure of the franchise for the first few years (let's give him kudos for at least that much) – but he's been a failure since. Picking Dubas (who had ZERO experience) over proven GM legends like Lamoriello and Hunter was the FIRST BIG mistake.. then the ridiculous over-valued, long-term, untradable contracts of not one, not two, not three, but FOUR players?!! And heck none of them can perform in the playoffs year after year, but let's give them one more year? And another? And another? And best of all, we've got ZERO funds to put into defence and goalies so let's scrape the barrel for past-prime players who the media sells as playoff-style players to help them over the hump… ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! If you haven't learned these facts over the past 6-8yrs then you haven't been watching:

    * Shanahan is no longer the guy we need in charge…
    * Dubas wasn't the right person in charge (willing to give Treliving 1-2 more seasons because this isn't really his team yet)…
    * Matthews is an amazing goal scorer, Marner an amazing play-maker, Nylander an amazing breakaway specialist (all of them in the regular season!) but virtually EVERY SINGLE PLAYER in the NHL keeps saying the same thing when interviewed… None of the ''Bieber-Buddies'' have enough leadership or sacrifice needed to lead this team (and we've seen this with our own eyes!)

It's 6-8yrs of the same! Enough is enough! It's time for us to let go of the idea this core can move forward and admit it's time to build for a new identity (while there's still SOME potential trade value left). Rebuild from THE NET OUT (hopefully Treliving keeps this pattern), get some picks, and FINALLY give our younger players a chance to play on this team in full-time roles.
