How were Oilers able to come back and win series vs. Canucks?

After dropping Game 5 in Vancouver, the Oilers came back to win Game 6 and 7 to beat the Canucks and advance to the Western Conference Finals against the Stars. TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss the key moments that helped the Oilers come out on top in Game 7, what changed for Edmonton to win the series, and big takeaways from Elias Pettersson’s performance in this series for Vancouver.

  1. Thank you Knucks fans who claimed they owned us, Thanks to the Knucks fans who cried about the refs, Thanks to the Knucks fans who throw garbage on their own ice, Thanks to the Knucks fans who tried to intimidate Skinner, Thanks for the useless chirps, ENJOY the offseason yea TOXIC fucks 👍

  2. Craig button is saying the oilers are good defensively 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  3. It's hard to really argue with Knoblauch's results…but the Oilers were near the top of the league in nearly all defensive measures except they had league worst goaltending until maybe 20 games in. At the same time, they were also near the top of the league offensively, but with an unusually low shooting %, which would inevitably sort itself out.

They were probably just a really good team experiencing a historical goaltending slump in the first month. A little while later, things averaged out and they went on ridiculous winning streaks.

The result is that they have been both overrated and underated going into the playoffs. They are just a good all-around team (not unbeatable ) who have seen some iffy goaltending for a couple of stretches.

  4. Surprised the Canucks weren't able to overcome the Oilers' defense and blocking their shots! They played quite well against Nashville's defensive system which is arguably stronger than the Oilers'. I would've thought they would have learned from that experience.

  5. Out coached. Period. Canucks didnt change their strategy AT ALL for 3 games. Attempted the samr forced plays over and over and over . Like the powerplay ZERO one timers they NEVER setup on the off wing. Damn so frustrating to watch

  6. They won 2 games in a row vs a team, thats how. lmao tsn, this series wasnt even close if it wasnt for Vancouver's never again lucky rooke goaltending

  7. What a dumb title. The Oilers didn't "come back" from anything. Each team traded wins until game 7. They were never down 2-0 or 3-0 or 3-1.

  8. It's pretty simple, they are and always were the better team. Had Skinner played well early in the series this easily would have been an Oiler sweep. This series was no where near as close as it looked

  9. Can they find someone, anyone, besides Craig Button for these? The guy speaks with so much authority, exaggerated intensity yet somehow never really says anything that isn’t obvious to any fan.

  10. Oilers should have won game 1 and Game 3. Just bad goaltending really. Team deserved a win and Vancouver deserved to lose.

  11. Oilers played easy opponents as opposed to the other series in the playoffs and barely won both. I doubt they will beat Dallas

  12. The Stars will dispatch the Oilers in 5 games while the Rangers will beat the Panthers 4 games to 3 to set up Gary Bettman’s dream Stanley Cup Final: Dallas v. New York.
