If they’re not retaining, getting him practically for free and sending off right before he falls off a cliff at $6.7 and getting a 2nd is insane

Damn… I thought he was really good for us. We weren’t exactly a young building team last season though. I guess this is what it takes.

I’m all for clearing out some of the older veterans for the young guys to come up, but I did not see this coming. I’m curious if this is to clear lineup slots for guys like Stastney and Del Gaizo, or if this is a cap clearing move for more to come this offseason/the future.

I sure as hell hope that McDonagh wanted to go back to Tampa. He deserves what’s best for him and his family.

  4. It was awesome having him while he was here. Hate to see him go, sucks that our top 4 has a huge hole now. But happy for him that he’s getting to go back to the place he liked most to finish out his career.

Granted the second is for next year but I don’t mind this as long as the money saved isn’t given to carrier for term. Statsney and MDG need spots to come up, plus you have Livingston down there too.

Not to mention ufko and molendyk are looking like real deals.

I love McDongle, but happy for him to get to go back to Tampa. From what I heard he absolutely loved it there.

Seems Trotz wants to go shopping.

I’m just processing this in live stream of consciousness but I seriously hope this means we’re keeping Carrier, even if the price is a bit above cos we all know this is a blow to our D corps. I totally want to see Stastney and Del Gaizo step up next year but in place of Schenn. We’re losing a tonne of experience and reliability in this.

The only scenario where I accept this *and* we let Carrier walk, is if we’re blowing it up and trading Saros as well (and not for Marner, for a seriously epic forward prospect.)

  8. I’m shocked by this but I’m really happy with the asset management here getting him for nothing and then trading him back for picks to make room for Stasney and MDG to more than likely play with the preds next season. Also means that Tampa bay has less cap space to re-sign Stamkos so it would be funny if we somehow signed him after this move. But I can see this be making room for a larger/younger piece either in the RFA market/trade/ free agency

I’m emotionally devastated, but it’s a good move.

If you think about it, we traded Phil Myers, Grant Mismash, and a 2024 4th for a 2025 2nd and a 2024 7th.

That’s a pretty damn good deal.

Tampa really loves giving us their draft picks.

    Amazing business.

I had a hunch McDonagh was going to go. There’s just too many teams out there that need a calming, stay at home defender, with multiple cups and a great attitude. This team seems to be dripping with “culture” guys and we were getting older and older. Plus he was a Poile guy, not a Trotz guy.

Honestly I thought he’d be going to the Devils or somewhere like that. Very surprised it’s Tampa. But that’s none of my business. We now have Tampa’s 2024 1st and 2nd pick. I think they’re so close to hitting a wall – they nearly did it this year if it wasn’t for Kucherov.

My gut tells me they’re also going to try and move Sissons. Then go shopping for a future 1C somewhere, and hopefully a future D man. We’ve got tons of picks out there and I don’t think we have anyone 1C or 1D in our pipeline right now.

I love this. Great salary dump and gives a chance for the young guys in Milwaukee hopefully.

On one hand, I’m very sad. McDonagh stepped in and filled the role left by Ekholm as the team’s best defensive defenseman. He is a hard-nosed gamer who helped usher in the right culture here in Nashville. On the other hand, McD is not getting any younger, and moving him can give us the cap space to pick up a scorer.

Nice, clears salary and hopefully his work ethic rubbed off a bit on the young guys.

Was hoping this was The Onion.

So you’re telling me this is Not The Onion? Damn, of course he’s gone, I just got his jersey.

This makes so much sense. Look at our LHD pipeline:

Stastney – He is now our third pair LHD, like he did before he was injured in the playoffs. He is also capable of playing on the right if there is an injury as he has done it before the NHL.

Molendyk – Bruno wanted to keep him last year according to many reporters. He probably needs some time in Milwaukee, but his skating is ELITE and we need fast skaters. So it would not shock me if he made the NHL squad later in the year.

Del Gaizo – He is probably NHL ready now, but we have no room for him. I would not be surprised at all if we moved him for a forward or RHD just because we have no room for him.

Hanzel – He will be in Milwaukee next year. He is probably 1-2 years away.

We needed to make room. McDonagh is an ELITE defender, but he is aging and we had to make room for more guys. Lauzon stepped up and he is now good enough to take McDonagh’s place as second pairing LHD.

Finally, Tampa Bay is on the decline. It is possible that next year’s second will probably be in the middle of the 2nd round. I love this move, but I didn’t think we would be able to move him because of his NTC.
