[Dhaliwal] Friedman on Canucks free agent targets: They will talk to Lindholm agent and ask what will it take, is it possible, maybe not but they will try. They know the price on Zadorov. With the Canucks expected the unexpected.

Between Hronek and Lindholm. You’ve gotta go Lindholm, right?

Guessing Cole, Blueger, Hronek. Walk in the off-season.

  2. Sarcastic__

I hope they can find a way to keep Lindholm. Probably overly optimistic but he really proved he was the real deal after the injury. It just gives the Top 6 so many options.

  3. NerdPunch

It’s funny how fans soured on Lindholm because his play was underwhelming only to find out he was injured, and now he’s a high priority signing.

Whereas Hronek went from high priority re-signing, to (allegedly) playing injured, to being a low priority to bring back next year.

Even seen people suggesting to let him walk.. albeit I just assume they don’t understand RFA vs UFA.

At the end of the day, it really boils down to term and AAV for all of these guys.

  4. infinitez_

Z and Lindholm are musts now that we see what they bring in the playoffs. I’d be willing to let Hronek walk if it means keeping these two.

  5. carry-on_replacement

unpopular take, but with how hard RHD are to come by, i feel we should keep Hronek, even if it is a bridge deal. Tanev and Pesce aren’t going to be cheap (and Tanev doesn’t have Hronek’s offensive upside) and you can’t expect Myers and Juulsen to be your first and second pairing RHD on a playoff contending team.

  6. Obvious-Property-236

I doubt we will keep Lindholm. He’s going to be looking for a payout at this stage of his career, long term, and any team will want someone like him to do it.

A friend made a good point after last nights game, Vancouver has shown its once again a desirable place to play (not including the beauty of the city which is a given). We have a winning culture, great coach, great talent – players will want to sign or come here. Looking forward to what our FO can cook up for next year.

  8. Professional_Care78

The annual Jim and Patrik Summer cook off has begun

  9. Considering how long they’ve been looking for a top 4 D to pair with Hughes I think we keep Hronek. Hopefully he takes a 6×6 and for Lindholm maybe a 5×7? Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to a team where he could be 1C though…

I loved Lindholm and he played amazing these playoffs, but I may be in the minority here when I say they may need to let him walk.

Not just because of the dollar, but the clear need for wingers over a 3C.

If Miller is going to continue playing centre, and Petey (I get it, he had a rough year, but let’s expect him to return to form here please. He’s 25, he’s not going to magically decline just yet.) is your 2C, then you shouldn’t spend 7M+ on a 3C. Spend that money on a winger. If you’re keeping Joshua, one of Suter or Blueger can play that 3C role for you. Go deadline hunting if the need is necessary later on.

If Reinhart costs the same I’d consider him over Lindholm. There’s some guys on the trade market – Marner, Ehlers, Necas – who would be fantastic on Petey’s wing. We can’t see more AHLers and Mikheyev there. We saw what happens over the course of a season with that.

Now, if you plan on moving one of Miller or Petey to the wing, then we can have a conversation, but I think the only real one out of those 2 is Miller. Miller is an amazing winger and a forechecking demon. Petey doesn’t have that in his game, but when he’s going we all know hows a top 5-7 C in the league.

Fuck it let’s reverse the Lindholm/Kuzmenko trade (joke)

  12. arazamatazguy

You never want to be the team chasing Free Agents that over performed in the playoffs.

You want to be the team that had the over performers and is capable of finding new ones.

  13. twizzjewink

If they can bring Lindholm, Zadorov, and Joshua back.. I strongly believe that they can make a run next year.

  14. This will be unpopular but I am not comfortable paying Z 5 million plus. He is a career 5th D…

  15. Recency bias here.. do people really want to see Hughes play with a Luke schenn again next season..? Can’t believe people are saying we need a RFA winger more than Hronek for next season..

  16. BrodyCanuck

Hot take…Lindholm is the worst option to resign. He doesn’t compliment the core group. When you have Miller and Pettersson you simply don’t need another centerman like that when neither him or Pettersson like playing on the wing. No matter how good he is, the money should be spent on getting a player to play along side with Pettersson. Miller has Boeser, Pettersson needs someone, and Lindholm ain’t it. You’re gonna end up with Lindholm or Pettersson on the 3rd line and neither guy plays well on that 3rd line. His performance in these playoffs could’ve very well been to play for a new contract and then coast after he gets locked in as well.

  17. 21marvel1

Can we all take a pause and imagine what this run would have been like with Andrei Kuzmenko instead of Lindholm. Pay that man

Edit: the man we pay is Lindholm

  18. Infinite-Tomorrow-15

I just realized Brockstar is a UFA next year…. Maybe we save all our money for that?

  19. WeVeeReality

I’m not convinced Joshua is worth a big ticket only because it was a career year that might have been a flash in the pan. We all wish for the best of course.

But also consider hes a winger and Zad is a defenseman and Lind is a center.

If something has to give it has to be wing. But Joshua might not command as much as we think on the market. If the price is reasonable the team might bite merely because of that.

But keep big Z if the priority is a cup because he’s D he’s a rock star and he’s younger than Lind.

  20. Lindholm as a righty shut down centre is what you need for the playoffs.

I don’t care how it is. But if Petey was playing at 80% regular season Petey, and we still have lindholm garland line. We beat the oilers. We need 3 lines to score. And lindholm gives us that option.

I prob take a deep look into Stephenson too

  21. Nier_Perfect

All I know is I trust Allvin to make the best decision for the team regardless of the fans reactionary opinion.

  22. watchtoweryvr

Maybe hockey teams shouldn’t stay out late the night before a game 7 drinking at Prophecy? The new bar in Hotel Georgia. Makes sense cause they played like hungover bags of shit. Probably felt morally defeated, and couldn’t win without Brock. It was still a really fun year but, those last two games were absolute trash.

  23. Domination_Station_

We need to focus on improving the young players we have and make improvements to help them. Huggy, Petey, Hogs, Podz, Arty… these guys are still improving. That’s what is going to drive our standing next year more than anything. We know what Zadorov and Lindholm are. They may have already peaked. Don’t overpay.

  24. BathroomParticular87

I hate that we are talking about free agency meanwhile the Oilers are preparing for the WCF.

  25. northwinds2233

I loved both these guys during our run but to be honest, I’m not sure they’ll be coming back unless they REALLY loved playing here and are willing to take pay cuts.

I feel like Lindholm particularly is for sure a goner. Boston will probably offer Lindholm somewhere in the ballpark of 8m+ AAV to be their 1C, and unless our plan is to permanently run the lotto line as our top line, we can’t afford to be spending that kind of money on a potential 3C with Pettersson/Miller as our 1C/2C.

As for Zadorov, if we can somehow sign him for around 4m AAV, I’d be happy with that. But there will probably be a GM out there who offers him 5.5-6, which I think is too expensive to match if he’s going to be a 5th dman for us.
