  1. It’s not problematic for next season, but it would really be a blessing if we can somehow ship one of Gally or Anderson contract.

  2. Dialectical

Man if Hughes can get Slaf locked in x 8 years just below Suzuki’s AAV we will be in such great shape in a few years.

We could have those 3 locked in long term at less than 1/2 of what Toronto is paying their “core four”

  3. I played with CapFriendly’s Armchair GM tools a bit. Doing a lot of scenarios, but in the one that aims to get:

    – Slafkovsky and Guhle signed to the max 8 yrs deals
    – All UFA’s let go (Armia, Savard, Dvorak, Evans, etc)
    – Tweener RFAs (Barron, Xhekaj, RHP, etc) extended to ~1.5M bridge deals
    – Price on the payroll in the offseason.
    – let Gallagher and Anderson play out their contract

I get to around 15M of cap space for the 2025 offseason. 25-26 is the last season of Price and Matheson, but also Dach, Hutson, Roy and Mailloux. So that 15M saved in 2026 probably largely goes to extend our own RFAS.

Then 26-27 is the last year of Gallagher and Anderson. That’s 12M extra in the 2027 offseason, which is when Montembeault, Newhook, Reinbacher, Beck, Mesar, Engstrom need new deals.

So it’s money in, money out almost every summer for the next 3 years, expect for 2025 where there’s really a large gap between what we need to spend on our own players and the cap freed by departing UFA’s + the cap going up to 92M.

If there’s a time to go whale hunting, it’ll be next summer.
