It’s Mock Draft Season! But this time we’re the one’s getting mad at someone else’s list.

Brandon Piller and Ross Levitan react to The Athletic’s latest Mock Draft by Scott Wheeler and Corey Pronman where they have the Ottawa Senators selecting no right hand shot defencemen with any of their first 3 picks. We continue with our 2024 NHL Draft Prospect Profiles with #59: Raoul Boilard, #58: Tomas Galvas and #58: Stian Solberg. We wrap the show up by discussing the Sens newest hire: Rob DiMaio!

  1. No that is the right pick at 7 if it’s between buium and parekh.
It’s not like buium or parekh would be stepping into the lineup next year to fill the rhd spot anyway.
Happy with a dman on either side. We can also select rhd later too.
If they want to go forward with catton, iginla or Lindstrom that could work too.

  2. Sens need a RD, but Buium has gone ahead of Parekh in just about every ranking or mock draft I've seen, and Staios has said that particularly the early pick you don't want to pick for position, but stick to the Best Player Available, so I can see the temptation in having the Sens pick Buium. Guy's gonna be a player;

  3. I will absolutely guarantee that the Sens will not draft a defenseman with their first pick…..They'll draft Iginla. They'll trade for a right shot or maybe even two defensemen. It takes too long for defensemen to develop and they don't have the time or patience.

  4. I really like Buium and like we've seen with their 25th overall pick and early 2nd round pick the Sens can find some good complementary dmen that can become guys like Cernak, Demelo, etc. and play up and down that right side on the blueline

  5. To be fair, I don’t know if a RHD is going to acquired by draft. There are other ways to get one!

  6. The streets are telling me the Sens are scouting Perekh more than any other player atm.

  7. lol sounds like the Sanderson, Drysdale all over again, Yakemchuck, might be the Brady in this one……..be nice tho if Siliyev was still available….

  8. The top line RD we need now is not coming from this draft as any pick we get now is 1-3 years away. Got to take best player whoever that is at 7th. Staios is going to have to trade one of our LD to get RD.

  9. The Sens are not planning to pick Zeev Buium. Hear me out!
He was available to be drafted last year, and wasn't picked. It's his 2nd year of eligibility.
That, of course, doesn't mean anything in this case.

However, 42 games 11 goals 50pts in the NCHC and 7 games 3 goals 5pts in the world juniors is too small of a sample.
If Zeev Buium goes in the AHL right away, he'll benefit of those 2 years.
By year 3 he would be in the NHL and by year 4 he'd be a top 6 and rising. Year 5? Top 4 possibly or even better.
If he decides to play 2 more years in the NCHC instead, it's going be 2 years wasted.
Because then 2 years later, he won't be ready for the NHL and he's going to be 2 years behind.
He's going to spend 2 more years in the AHL just to adapt and catch up to the level.
It's that simple. If Buium plays in the AHL right away, he'll be in the NHL in 3 years or sooner.
If he plays in the NCHC, it'll take 5 years for him to get in the NHL or longer!

Parekh is playing in the Memorial Cup with the Saginaw Spirits in the next 2 weeks, so he's going to gain ranking-value in each team's list.
66gp 33 goals 96pts + 11pts 2 goals in 13gp in the playoffs entering the Memorial Cup (and he had 9pts 6 goals in 11gp in last year's playoffs).

I think Buium will get drafted by an American team, 6th (by Utah), 8th (by SEA), 10th (by NJ), 11th (by BUF), 12th (by PHI) or 13th (by MIN).
Parekh is an Ontario kid and reminds me of PK Subban a little with more scoring. There's no way the Sens pick Buium over Parekh.

In my opinion, the problem won't be Parekh vs Buium for the Sens. The problem is will Parekh be available at 7th?

We all know Celebrini will be 1st overall, kids like him are the reason why in 1979 they changed the age from 20 to 18 in the draft.
CHI will pick Lindstrom. I don't think they want to wait 2years + for Demidov because it's better to develop Lindstrom now than to wait.
Plus, Lindstrom is ranked #1 on every team's POWERFORWARD list. He's a safe bet. CHI will pick him, which will piss off ANA, CBJ and MTL.

If ANA and CBJ haven't already talked and made a deal with Demidov, both will pass, otherwise whoever made the deal is going to take him.
If CHI has a hard time passing him, and favor Lindstrom, then ANA might have trouble passing him also.
If they do, they'll go for their top D on their list. They need a RD, they'll be looking at Levshunov and Parekh. I think they'll pick Levshunov.
Both ANA and CBJ have on their team other Russians who can help Demidov adapt.
Demidov would have more ice-time with CHI and even ANA, and he'd be guaranteed to stay in the NHL, because their rosters are so bad.
However with the CBJ, I am not so sure he'll have the ice-time wanted, but it does look like the best NHL environment of the three.
If CHI and ANA past on Demidov, CBJ will be looking at Silayev and Dickinson.
OR MAYBE they'll shock everyone with another F like Iginla or Eiserman.

One thing is certain, Celebrini, Lindstrom and Levshunov won't be available for MTL at 5th overall.
The question is who's the 4th player that won't be available for MTL. Will it be Demidov? Silayev? Dickinson? Parekh? Iginla? Eiserman?

Regardless, I don't think MTL would pick Demidov if he was available, and I think Utah wouldn't pass on him.
Demidov will not drop over 6th overall, so the Sens won't even have that problem on their lap.
And that is a good thing, they'll have a clear mind to make their pick.

Calgary are hoping to get Iginla at 9th, but I don't think he'll be available and they know it.
It's going to get real serious when MTL's on the clock.
Unless MTL wants Parekh, they'll be looking at Iginla, Eiserman, and Dickinson themselves, or even Sennecke maybe.
They might put some pressure on CAL to make a trade. Iginla will not get through Utah, Ottawa and Seattle.
So if CAL wants Iginla, they've got to make a deal with MTL. There is no other way.

Again, I am talking if MTL was aiming at Lindstrom with Levshunov and Silayev unavailable.
If they want Parekh, Eiserman, Sennecke, and don't mind getting Dickinson or Yakemchuk, they should trade up with CAL.
In 5th, CAL would pick Iginla.
In 6th, Utah would pick Lindstrom, Demidov and Iginla unless they were already picked.
If these 3 weren't available, I don't think they'd be picking Parekh. They'd go for Silayev, Dickinson, Yakemchuk or Buium.
Utah needs D, so they're only going to pick a F if Lindstrom, Iginla and Demidov are available.
Utah is the first team that will consider Buium and might pick him.
If Demidov makes it through CHI-ANA-CBJ, he'll get through MTL and Utah will get him.
In 7th, OTT can safely pick Parekh.
In 8th, SEA is going to take a close look at Eiserman and Parekh if MTL or OTT didn't pick him. They're going to be looking for scoring attributes.
I think Eiserman or Parekh would end up with SEA, if both of them were avaible at 8th.
I think they're would pick Eiserman and wouldn't look back, or maybe they've got an eye on Sennecke. Or else all there is left is Yakemchuk.
So in 9th, MTL would have lots of choices left; Dickinson, Sennecke, Yakemchuk,
It would be nice if they could add a 2nd or 3rd round pick in the trade and get someone like Kuzmenko, MTL gots lots of pick this year.

  10. Again RD in the draft isn't a must at 7. I still prefer we go Iginla if Possible, hard choice between Dickenson, Buium and Parekh. I'm leaning towards Dickenson at the moment.
