Fury Hockey

The Muskegon Fury were one of minor pro-hockey’s most successful teams. They won

4 UHL Colonial Cup championships, between 1999 and 2005. The Muskegon Fury initial season was 1992-93 in the Colonial Hockey League (CoHL), which later became the United Hockey League (UHL). Their last season using the Fury name was 2007-08. After that season, owner Tony Lisman, sold the team. The name was changed to Lumberjacks, in honor of the original Muskegon Lumberjacks of the IHL, by the new ownership. Late in the 2009-10 season the new owners announced that they were folding the team at the end of the season. Actually they sold the franchise to Evansville, Indiana (which became the Indiana Icemen of the Central Hockey League). Over the years such players as Brett Seguin, Mark Turner, Paul Willett, Sergei Kharin, Robin Bouchard, Todd Robinson, Rob Melanson, Scott Hollis, Brant Blackned, Rustyn Dolyny, Rich Parent, Joe Dimaline, & Sylvain Daigle among others, starred for the Fury. Such players as Rich Parent, Steve Webb, Chris Neil, Steve MacIntyre, & Clay Wilson made it to the NHL. Sergei Kharin previously starred in the Russia & won a gold medal in the 1983 World Junior Championships. He also was the 1st Soviet player to play in the NHL for the Winnipeg Jets. Coaches Bruce Boudreau, Steve Ludzik, & Bill Stewart also made it to the NHL. Former Fury broadcaster, John Wiedeman now broadcasts for the Chicago Blackhawks & Tim Saunders broadcasts for the Philadelphia Flyers.
