Gabe, you don’t know me, but I’ll go to the wall for you if you ask.

  2. I love listening to Gabe speak. So well-spoken, and you’d also never guess that English isn’t his first language. It’s easy to see why he wears the C.

Oh yeah, I also REALLY love that he isn’t retiring!

  3. heyimdong

Wait, they’re talking about Val a lot. Did I miss something on Landy? Are the burying the lead here?

  4. bliceroquququq

Glad it’s not a retirement, but concerned it’s still a “sometime between mid-September and mid-April” timeframe for return.

  5. abandondedbox

GABE ISNT LEAVIN!!! Let’s fucking goooo!!!

  6. Awkward_traveler

“It is very plausible that Val will be back with the Avalanche”

  7. heyimdong

I’m hoping for the best, but seems like having over $13 million in contracts tied up all offseason in two guys that you can’t have any faith will play again is very, very bad.

I want Val to live the best life he can. I really find a hard time believing its in a Avs sweater.

I don’t care if nothing of real value was said, I just like listening to Gabe.

Also regarding the other player missing, it’s to me pretty clear if they could, they’d cut Val. Both of them dance around it but they’re clearly extraordinarily disappointed and upset.

  10. I understand not being able to give a specific date of return, but saying between September and April is a huge window. It’s like when the cable guy or furniture delivery guy says “between 9a-5p”.

We could get him in the first game or the last, it seems. And we won’t know until it happens. Not that much of an update but it’s something, I guess.

If I was CMac I would name drop people just to stir shit up. “Sure we’d like Debrusk on the team, but we’ll need to see if it makes sense”

  12. Shaneisonfire

Sounds like only Mittelstadt and Lehky were banged up which makes some of our star players look more disappointing for how they played.

  13. I hate that is org is stuck in no man’s land between Landy and Val’s situation, cant help but feel some of our star players primes are being wasted because of all the uncertainty

  14. HolyPizzaPie

Did he just say there’s not going to be any problems re-signing drou?!

  15. RooseveltsRevenge

I know this isn’t what people want to hear but with having to probably not spend Landy’s cap hit, probably being unable to cut nuke (tho i think people are underratimg how tradable of a contract it js comsiderint his AAV and his production this postseason.) and the need to resign major contributors like Casey and Dru, this next year feels like a transition/rebuilding year rather then a legitimate shot at a cup.

i want to see all our youngster get significant NHL time this next season. lets see who can swim

Controversial points: Val is too good of a hockey player on too good of a contract to just give up on him.

There is a breaking up point but it doesn’t feel like cutting him completely is the best decision.

I see a lot of people treating the “between September and early April” comment as something other than it was intended: a lighthearted joke. I know as fans it is our habit (and right) to read way too far into things, but the tone he delivered that did nothing but give me confidence that between him and MacFarland, they are counting on him being back next year, and while the timeline didn’t support him coming back during this playoff run, Gabe is absolutely gearing up to be ready to start the next season. His talk about “earning the right to take the next step” is really important context to the slow pace he has been progressing at. I hope that steady incline allows him to be ready to push it at training camp, but maybe we are still looking at the first few weeks of the season with him practicing and taking drills with the team and getting ready for game speed.

Also, I need to find the hat Gabe had, that thing is sick and I want one now.

  18. I’m here for the Landy return and Val redemption arc next season leading to another cup.

  19. reKRUNKulous

Hate to be the downer but even if Landy never plays again, he was never going to “retire.” I may be wrong, but his contract would terminate upon retirement, meaning the rest of it wouldn’t be paid (unless there is some insurance clause still paying the full amount due to career ending injury). Why would he voluntarily retire prematurely? He was never going to retire during his contract. At worst, it will be traded around for LTIR reasons, a la Webber and others.

  20. anemic_royaltea

Just gotta hook him up with the Adrian Peterson ‘workout’ regimen and watch what happens.

  21. Hungry_Definition450

What occurred to me during this interview is that both situations involving Val and Landy aren’t too dissimilar.

They are both a form of ‘injury’ or wound: one physical and one mental/addiction related. They both have undergone setbacks but the nature of Val’s setbacks have become more public and unfortunately more high-stakes. His ‘injury’ became inflamed when we needed him most.

If I give Landy grace for his rehabilitation process, why can’t I do the same for Val?

  22. _redacteduser

Fans without addiction issues in their lives love to judge people who do. Doesn’t stop at superstar players.

I want Val to get healthy and be in a good place. Same with Landy. I sometimes wonder with Landy in the lineup the last couple years, is Val in the same situation?

They are still people – don’t know why fans keep confusing that part.

  23. serminole

I have no idea how we make the cap work with both Landy and Nuke potentially returning. I feel like we can handle one returning but both is going to be really hard outside of putting out some absolute garbage bottom 6/9s while we wait for them to get back.

  24. rascal7298

something that won’t get a lot of attention… there was no injury to Miko. That’s concerning considering his quality of play at the end of this season.
