Reviewing Oilers vs Stars Game One

The Oilers played an excellent road game. Dallas is going to have to be better to earn a split in game two.

  1. Why can't thg root for the Canadian team. He's not from Dallas, nor is he a Texan. It's impossible to be a serious fan of a team if you aren't from the team's city and it's hard to take a fan from outside a team's city seriously.

  2. I'm inšŸ”µEdmontonšŸŸ but I am rooting foršŸŸ¢Dallasāš«ļøšŸŗšŸ»šŸ„ƒšŸ‘.

  3. Not over until itā€™s over, they always struggle at the beginning of the series. They will unlock after.

  4. Ya know one thing I never understood with the NHL is whatā€™s with the obsession with original 6 teams. Thereā€™s no other sport that I know of that has a weird obsession like that. What like 11 teams have been around since 67. I love hockey but this is the one thing I just donā€™t understand.

  5. The formula to beat the Oilers is getting pressure early on Skinner and scoring an early goal to destroy his confidence. If you let him get settled early he seems to be able to become competent.

  6. As a Canes fan who got to see that great seven-game series against the Oilers in 2006, I think if any team is gonna take the cup to the great white north, it is this team. Very impressive. If Skinner plays like that, they will be a force to be reckoned with. <added> Oh yeah the tv audience will be the highest the league has ever seen IMO.

  7. As a Panthers fan, I think that the Panthers would be the Oilers Achilles heel, but once I stop and think about how good the stars are on the Oilers, it scares me. It sucks because I like Edmonton too, and I want McDavid to get his cup

  8. I donā€™t get Canucks fans who wonā€™t cheer for the Oilers. Unless youā€™re actually a Stars fan like yourself, it just seems petty. Youā€™d rather the team that beat you get destroyed in the next round, proving that your team was even worse than you thought? I donā€™t get that logic. Granted, in your case, Shannon, youā€™re a fan going back to the Minnesota days, so it makes sense. I liked them back then too. But people who are just Canucks fans rooting for teams that beat them to fail make zero sense to me. I donā€™t want the team that beat Vancouver to lose to another team. I want to be able to say they lost to a team that either won or almost won the Cup. Thatā€™s called optimism. That means with a few moves, they could be closer rather than further away. Should be a good series and itā€™s about time a Canadian city got a proper parade. If itā€™s not Vancouver, I donā€™t care if itā€™s Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal. Itā€™s the fans who matter. The millionaire players have their reward.

This was a very close game with the Oilers holding on to a 2-1 lead for most of the 2nd and 3rd periods until Seguin tied it up (2nd of the night). Just looking at base stats Oilers had 5 more shots, 4 more hits, won 9 fewer faceoffs, gave up 5 penalties to Dallas's 1 (and that double minor to start the first OT by McDavid needs a stupid sticker on the forehead for a bit, yes, he redeemed himself by scoring the winner 32 seconds into the 2nd OT but still). PK (both teams) 100%. PP (both teams) 0%. If the Oilers could have gotten more calls they may have had more goals but we'll never know. The Oilers had 6 more Giveaways (which is a lot), 4 fewer Takeaways (again, a lot) and 1 fewer blocked shot (24 to 25 for Dallas). Both teams were blocking anything and everything for some time there. I mean I thought the first period might end with Dallas having 3 shots and the Oilers having 1 before things progressed a bit later in the period. This was a great game between two great teams. On this night the Oilers were better and I think Skinner surprised them as to how good he was. Take care all.
