If Joshua walks should we take a flyer on Heinen? He was on Pittsburgh in 21-22 (when JR/Allvin were still there). Stylistically & size wise they are quite similar, except Heinen is a better on puck player. He does take a lot more penalties than he draws though.

Heinen seems to get no respect around the league considering he was on a PTO last season. He’s pretty good though so if he still comes cheap I’d take him

A local BC boy fwiw, and yeah like you pointed out, was in Pittsburgh for a few seasons, although I’m not sure if it overlaps with Rutherford since he re-signed before the start of the 21-22 season. Allvin was there for parts of that season, of course, before he joined us.
I think it would make sense at the right cost. I think he could fit the system well and might not be too pricey of a cap hit
Benning’s problem was that he was signing middle and bottom 6 players to absurd contracts. This new regime seems to believe the bottom 6 can be cycled so long as you have an intact core. This is how teams like Boston and Vegas have managed to stay competitive for so many years in a row

Not relevant but I played with Heinen on the Richmond Sockeyes and he had the biggest hands I’ve ever seen so there’s that
Here’s a fun tidbit I found while looking up stats: 4 of Heinen’s 17 goals this year were against playoff teams. Not really sure if it means anything but found it interesting
He also had 1 assist in 8 playoff games compared to Joshua with 4 goals and 8 points in 13 games.
He’s definitely a depth piece who can play up the lineup, but tagging him as a Joshua replacement is just setting yourself up for disappointment imo
I’d rather keep dak for his personality and chemistry but if he prices himself out, then we have bo choice
