Matthews, Domi (if re-signed), Tavares, Kampf and Holmberg makes the Leafs need for another center option a lower priority for at least the upcoming season. Arguably, far more pressing priorities are a goalie and right side defensive help. Of course any opportunity to upgrade at center should always be considered but for a cap strapped team like the Leafs, the limited remaining cap dollars need to be allocated wisely.
JT is at 11 next year. At 34 years old. He signs a 3×3 this summer with a nmc taking him into his 38th year. While it doesn’t help this year. It’s like a 4 year x 5m per. Which is what he’s really worth.
JT at 3rd line center is just foolishness. If he isn't 2C he has to be LW1or2. He isn't a shutdown center and an 11M 3C makes zero sense.
Steven Stamkos 7 years 49 million front loaded with signing bonuses. After moving Marner, the space can be spread around. Most importantly, extending JT for 8 years and 50 million front loaded with signing bonuses. Go Leafs Go 2025 is our year to win the Cup. 🍻

They definitely need a depth centre. As good as Tavares is I’d still let him take face offs but I’d try him on the wing going forward. Marner trade have to get defense and a playoff goalie most important. I like Roy and Thompson or Hill and maybe a def try and get some depth in deal

I became alarmed when Holmberg centered the 3rd line!!?? and reporters asked Willie why he stopped scoring!!?? On any average team, Tavares – Knies is a 3rd line. Stephenson is good size, 'fast', can pass or shoot, great defensively, center or left wing. Do you see he got 10 goals 10 assists on last year's Cup-winning team? And for Bertuzzi's last year money, same age.
Leafs can't win the cup with out Ronald McDonald as head coach..
why would you make Stephenson 2nd line centre over Tavares…unless Tavares is moved to wing that doesn't make sense, Cowan hopefully will be full time for 25-26 if he can then be second line….I don't think this era wins a cup without Cowan developing fast while he's still affordable.
