First of all, we can not overstate how much the shift from Samsonov to Woll changed the complexion of the series. Samsonov was simply not stopping enough pucks late in the season and into the first games of the series. There may be a small element of truth to your argument somewhere, you just haven't quite got it right. Matthews does not play 'for himself'. He's a strong player that uses his talent to drive strong 2-way play and he is for sure missed. However, there's an element of passenger syndrome with the Leafs where much of the rest of the team plays with a slightly entitled attitude that they get away with during the regular season that doesn't cut it in the playoffs. Every player has to give 100% of what they've got on practically every shift to win series in the playoffs.
This is bullshit. It's not Austin's fault that his wife gers choke when they have a great opportunity and decide to then pass it to him. So many chances thrown away to pass it to Austin. I don't think it's singularly Austin more so the other players depending on him for goals when (as we have clearly seen) they are more than capable
I know that it is a easy answer, but think about it. first it was management so they change it, then it was coaching so they changed it, than its no key players, so they changed it. and so on and so on. Nothing works. Once a team makes the playoffs, they need to beat in a series 4 other teams to win the Stanley Cup, let that sink in just a second. That is 1 more than the entire league back in the Early 60's, which was the last time a Toronto Maple Leaf team won a Cup. So what really needs to change is the Team! Sell Them, move them, change the home ice, Change the team colors. But just get rid of the franchise and bring in some thing completely new. How many NEW Franchises have won a Cup since the Leaf's last won? Almost all of the new franchise teams have. The last team to win was St. Louis and they were one of the first new teams to be added and even they finally won again Before the Leaf's. IT's the Franchise, Get rid of the entire Franchise. Right down to the door man , the janitor, hell even the bricks in the building. Its time to flood someone's back yard and start developing 5 year old's, who have no clue who the LEAFS WERE, they will never be again the team we all deserve. Thank you and Good Bye Leaf's.879 225
as much as I agree with your take on this situation, I don't believe its Matthews who is creating this, I think the team has bought into the "super star" mentality and rest of the team, (maybe Management) has said get him the puck. I truly Believe Matthews knows he is not the team, despite the franchise surrounding him with players. But the team themselves only believe it when he is not in the line up. So after tonight! it will be 2024 -25's problem who ever is here or left? if Toronto done not smarten up and just sell the team to Italy or somewhere on the European continent? Do they play , hockey, or Leaf's impression of ? in Australia?
Mindset is a Vibration. You can affect everything around you by selecting Negativity vs Positivity. The only thing stopping the switch between the two is the happiness or sadness correlated directly to how tightly you hold on to ego.
Matthews has been a playoff disappointment for his entire career. Snipers belong on the wing. His weak passing skills generate only 33% assists of the top 25 NHL assist leaders. That is weak for a first line Centre. Matthews is known to be soft on the puck in the playoffs. Leafs are better off just scratching Matthews come playoffs. 😀
THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! I, too, have been saying, no, crying the same sentiment! Finally, some validation from someone calling it like it is. I've been saying that come playoff time that the core, mainly Matthews and Marner have each lost the heart to play further. (More to the point: Given up.) I totally agree that Matthews plays for individual accolades in stead of laurels for the team. We've seen it here, this season. Someone mentions that He could be on track to score 70 goals this season… Matthews sees this on tv and then approaches his core friends to buy into his new plan, no, his new goal. Thinking to himself, I'll be in line to get the Hart for this run. (Sorry to disappoint, Austin, but…No.) You nailed it again when you stated that once out of the line-up, what other choice but to play together, as a team, was open to the Leafs…extending their lives to game 7.

Honestly this resonates with me. Gotta be a team to win. Just ask Connor.

Reilly must be a problem playing for himself too lmao. When he was hurt during the season leafs won a lot lol. This is garbage.
I've been saying the same thing. You are absolutely right. It's so obvious.
Dude you win as a team you lose as a team. One player aint the teasin a team loses.

I really, really hope the Leafs beat the Bruins in game 7 😁😁
But yea without Matthews, he's a regular season player.
Without him the buds are more confident, stronger, have more grit, passion and heart.
Go Leafs Go!!
I think you’re totally wrong but ok 😂
you said it better than I could ever. thank you
This post is total merde – he had 8 hits and multiple take always last game. He’s an elite D zone forward now. Maybe you’re confusing him with Marner

Yes let’s trade him for a bag of imported pucks from Montreal is that what you are saying?
