I would be open to Martin Jones returning as a third stringer
Gear4Vegito
We are throwing the season if he is the backup but there is zero issues with him coming in as the #3 goaltender again. Assuming he clear waivers again at the start of the season.
Saying that though there will be teams with an either an established starter goaltender or don’t care about winning that might want him as a very cheap option. The goaltender free agent class is abysmal.
Edit: People really want a tandem of Woll-Jones I see.

Him and Murray can duke it out on PTOs for the #3 slot.
GiveMeAdviceClowns
If we started him in the playoffs, we’d win. Don’t @ me
Takhar7
Is he open to another poison pill built into his deal?
stellosartois
he willing to stay for 5 million
james-HIMself
He was good before we hung him out to dry for weeks
Sarge1387
Why not. “In case of emergency, break glass and deploy the Jones”. He’s like that spare donut in your trunk: Great for when you really need it, but don’t use it more than 100km otherwise there’s no guarantee.
BrainOfJim
I’d bring him back as the third goalie, but someone may offer him a better opportunity than that. He played admirably when we really needed him. He was a solid pick-up by Treliving.
traviscalladine
Why don’t we try signing a good goalie instead of a proven bad goalie?
ln0Sc0p3dJFK
If he does, it’s not a matter of if the leafs win a cup, but how many
Kronzor_
Oh great. I was really worried our third stringer wouldn’t be willing to remain.
jimmymeeko
I like it. The stretch he put together last season may very well have saved the entire year for the team.
ProgramFrequent6947
Honestly wouldn’t hate him as a 3rd string veteran presence. Would prefer that role go to a healthy Murray who has more playoff experience, but I feel like Murray is like that guy from Spongebob who has glass bones and paper skin lol
TheDannyBoyCane
Unlikely he would get through waivers again.
LtColumbo93
I’d like him back but I think he may have played too well last year to slip through waivers against but isn’t good enough to be in the tandem with Woll so unfortunately I just don’t see a future here.
XPhazeX
Assuming hes the 3rd string though, Does he take games away from Hildeby as the Marlies starter?
Not sure I like that either,
tecate_papi
I could be willing to say no
NotFrankZappaToday
Decent tendy. From the sounds of it, he’s a decent dude in the LR, too. I’d like to see him back.
Falconflyer75
I mean the guy was fine most games
Big_Albatross_3050
Low risk, high reward as a 3rd stringer. give him the fully buryable contract and structure it where he gets paid most of it after the pre-season so he gets through waivers. That way Hildeby at least has 1 guy ahead of him before being forced up and even as a main backup, you could do a lot worse than Jones. That said I think Brossoit is the guy to be the backup and Jones to be the 3rd stringer, if they neither aquire a star goalie through trade nor re-sign Samsonov.
TheBusinessMuppet
Is Sammy does not come back, then Woll, and jones as the goalies with Dennis Hildiby could work. No way he will go through waivers.
Jones saved the season with Woll injured and Sammy going through personal issues. He is too good to be a third stringer goalie.
Both-Ambassador2233
Comical. As if this guy isn’t signing the first thing coming his way.
123jazzhandz321
I’d give him a deal worth 1.15m x 2 years. The caphit would be fully buriable, and the term would deter teams from claiming him.
Woll @ 776k x 1 year
Talbot @ 3m x 1 year
Jones @ 1.15 x 1 year
As the three goalies for the Leafs heading into next season isn’t bad at all, especially when they have a cap hit of 5m, and 3.75m when Jones is sent down to the minors.
Blue_KikiT92
I’m happy with that. Guy was a lifesaver
Small-Wolverine-7166
He was solid when called upon.
CarousersCorner
Jones was a really good #3, and had quite a few years as a solid #1. He can go a long way to teaching Woll about preparation. Woll has a similar temperment, it seems, so Marty is a natural mentor for our young keeper.
Slow-Juice-7257
I’d sign him to a 2 year deal x 1.3M if that’s what gets it done
AdTricky5280
It’s funny because I definitely thought he was so done with it here. He got so short with the media by the end of the year. Figured he’d had a good enough audition to get a back up gig anywhere else in the league
VeryAttractive
Really can’t ask for a better #3. He’s probably good enough to be a backup to a legit starter. I’d happily take him back but not sure he gets past waivers this time around
DigitalPlop
Honestly I think barring an up and coming prospect who could develop into a number 1, Jones is sort of an ideal third string guy for any team as long as the cap hit is buriable. We need to turn over a lot of this roster but I’d keep Jones if we can.
bigcaulkcharisma
I still think we should have went to him after Woll went down. If Jones could replicate his play earlier in the season there was a good chance of winning that game 7.
