Lot of little mistakes in this one, but no biggie. One i will point out is that Carolina actually had the longest playoff drought, longer than Buffalo, in the NHL before 2019.
If this team doesn’t end up with different ownership you will keep getting the same results.

Good hire. A GM from a winning organization who knows how to work contracts with players. Someone sowing from a winning culture and knows what coaching is supposed to look like. It could all go wrong. It is columbus, of course, but I'm cautiously optimistic.
I think that success for Don Waddell – and his predecessor, Jim Rutherford – is often understated. To be as successful as they have in a market like Carolina is far, far more difficult than it would be in New York, Washington, or even Detroit. If somebody were to take a blind poll of players in the NHL, and ask them if they would want to play in Carolina, I would bet you'd get a 50% "No" response, at the least. I don't say that to bash Raleigh, but to be realistic. You have these high-performing athletes that have played their asses off to get to the NHL, and they are probably asking themselves "I worked my ass off to wake up surrounded by Bojangles, Chick-o-Philia, and Waffle House?…Stop typing. I was born in Raleigh, and grew up between there and Denver. So I know what Raleigh has now for amenities, and frankly my 10-year old self would be astonished at the change. But that part of North Carolina has an image problem that it does little to alleviate. That same disparaging argument could be made about Tampa or Nashville as well. But Tampa has a beach, and Nashville has nightlife. Raleigh? Not so much. So having said all of that, it becomes in retrospect, an even more remarkable job that these gentlemen have not only gotten guys to play there, but to be as successful as they have been…
GMDW is a great GM and part of the Canes success. He brought the right guy behind the bench and knows how to make trades. Columbus will be on the rise again shortly

This is precisely the kind of thing the CBJ fanbase needed to see to have some faith restored that ownership actually cares about the long-term success of the franchise and isn't just riding out the lease to NWA so they can turn around and sell the team to a bigger market. Here's hoping that with a veteran coach behind the bench, they can finally start righting the ship over the next couple of seasons.

I've said this for a decade about the Blue Jackets… they are not a "desired location" for free agents, generally speaking. That would include the Blue Jackets players when they become free agents. Somehow, someway, that reality has to be corrected if the Blue Jackets are to ever truly contend for a Stanley Cup.
I know youre nice and stuff but Bear cant find a team that wants to commit to him. Its ok to admit he isnt good.
One thing CBJ fans have needed for a very long time now is hope. They went all-in 5 years ago, won a series, and lost everyone that got them there. It's been downhill ever since, I mean sure they beat Toronto but the 2020 playoffs were a write-off for most teams. Nobody had momentum going in and it showed (Boston won the Presidents trophy that year and had all the momentum when the world stopped, and I'm still salty about it).
For Columbus it's just been one bad decision after another and too many injuries to count. Looking at Waddell's track record should give the fans some hope, and finally some excitement for the future. They have the talent but they don't have the structure or discipline to be a consistent contender. As an Ohio resident I'm hoping that changes. It'd be nice to have a pro sports team that won't let me down every season and kill my love of the sport.
I grew up a Reds and Bengals fan, and it's been so brutal here in Cincinnati that I haven't actively watched baseball or football in over 15 years. And I would follow the Jackets, but I've seen zero success from them in their entire history. With a veteran helmsman coming in, I find my hope reinvigorated.

The 2021 offseason was a bipolar one for Waddell. Letting go of Hamilton and signing Tony DeAngelo and trading Nedejlkovic to go with Andersen/Raanta. How much of that came down to his own choices vs the owner?

First good hire in years for Columbus
Good move for the Blue Jackets. They needed something resembling structure in the post-"we swept the Lightning" era. After Torts and the departure of that talent corps., there wasn't much of a clear vision, and the league rapidly changed in just two short years.
I think Pascal Vincent has promise as a coach, the team is made up of a weird mishmash of speedy guys, skill dudes, and random offensive defensemen. It'll be interesting to see if he's retained
