Some people were twisting themselves into pretzels defending the core with “THE CAP IS GOING UP SO WE CAN BUILD AROUND THEM!” nonsense, completely ignoring the fact that they actually take up MORE percentage of the cap next year than they do this year.
Just an incredibly mismanaged cap situation from start to finish, and their only likely reprieve will be to let a few of those highly paid players walk for nothing in return.

This is kinda a dumb thread tbh, last year of mitch and JT deal. This is likely the peak of this situation happening on a math basis assuming Mitch is resigned and JT takes 1/2 to 2/3 discount.
Hypothetically speaking it would be dumb to jetson out Mitch and keep Tavares from an age standpoint alone. We are Team building.. Tavares skating is gonna go full Jason Allison in the next 2-3 years. I’d rather keep Mitch, sign JT for 1/2 the price and kill off the combined salary of jarnkrok + kampff for a 5M forward
