Boston College men’s hockey lost another key piece to their team that made it to the NCAA championship last year. Will Smith, who was drafted by the San Jose Sharks, announced on Tuesday that he is heading to San Jose for next season. Macklin Celebrini isn't a defenseman, he's a forward. And Will Smith was picked 4th overall, not 3rd.
San Jose is a current disaster. They feel they need Smith immediately. IMO Smith and San Jose would have benefited from Smith having another year at BC. Pro Sports have a much bigger mental component and it’s a lot tougher at 19. Smith is a big loss but Leonard would be bigger. Hagans can come in and play C with Leonard and Perrault. Hagans could be a higher draft choice than Smith. But if Leonard leaves then BC is hurting. Hope Leonard stays. He’s as ready as Smith but for the same reasons I think his staying will benefit him in the long run. The Capitols are not a train wreck like San Jose. Brownie will continue to recruit well and will be in the mix. If Smith and Leonard returned, BC would probably have been No 1 preseason. Without Smith still Top 5-10. Leonard will be a leader for the Hobey. Hopefully he wants one more year with Perrault and Fowler. He won’t regret it.
Starting 5- Brown, Kelley. Venning, Strong and whoever impresses the most. Most likely a G b/c Coach likes a 3 G Offense.
