Revisiting the 2014 Los Angeles Kings

They were the ultimate comeback artists, possibly in NHL history. They stared down elimination and won every time.

  1. Yeah, we blew every game they won in the finals other than game 3. Really shitty coaching from AV, as per usual honestly.

  2. Your comment about Marian Gaborik being a potential Conn Smythe winner has huge merit. Without Gaborik's goals, the Kings do not get past Anaheim in Round 2. But, Justin Williams deserved to win for his performances when the stakes were at their highest and all the chips were down.

  3. 1:58 It was a knuckler from Marleau that floated through bodies and into the net that won Game 3 for the Sharks, and looked to be deflating for the Kings after they had all the best chances in OT.

  4. I started watching hockey avidly in the 2010-11 season and this was my favorite stanley cup run ever. Loved this kings team. Martinez overtime winner was the most excited i ever got for a goal and im not even a kings fan (im a bolts fan)

  5. Gosh i remember watching the double overtime game vs Chicago in school during mathclass( feck math) HAHAHA

  6. Great playoffs overall! This was the first year of the current four division format; a modified version of the old divisional playoff format, only it's the top three in each division getting in, plus two Wild Cards per conference. Amazing. Kings started 0-3 and won; that seven-game West Final was off the chain! Very amazing playoffs overall

  7. Kings are not my main, but these
two cup wins are why I consider them my 2nd team. It’s just a shame how much they’re struggling right now because 2012/2014 Kings were sick.
The decline rn is upsetting when you remember what this team once meant.

  8. Kind of a weird thing is that the Blackhawks and Kings got in the way of the other's potential three-peat in 2013 and 2014

  9. 2012: Dominance 2014: Resilience. Kings did not have home ice for the first three rounds. Won all Game 7's on the road. NHLdotcom voted Kings-Blackhawks best series of the decade. Probably the best series I've seen. G-7 of CHI, G-1 and G-2 of NYR, Kings were behind 2-0 in the game. Quick was back to Conn Smythe Quick after the Game 4 of SJS. CHI could ring it up on anybody.

  10. The Hawks series was the Cup final, whichever team came out of that series was going to win the Cup. Game 7 was one of the best games i've ever watched, great hockey from both teams.

  11. Yes, the Kings were exhausted after 21 games in the first 3 rounds.
However, the Rangers played 20 games to get there so they were hardly anymore rested

    Great video!

  12. Perfectly encapsulates the Kings: being dominant out of nowhere in 12 and then making it as difficult for themselves as possible in 14 with 21 GPs going into the finals.

  13. This was the 2nd time the Kings prevented a SC Final between 2 original six teams. This time, they spoiled a Hawks-Rangers SC Final (as would Tampa Bay the next season). The other time of course was in '93 when that team also won a road game 7. The hockey gods had enough of Toronto-Montreal by that time, I guess!
