Bryan Hayes, Jamie McLennan and Jeff O’Neill debate about what the market could be like for the Maple Leafs’ pending UFA defenceman Tyson Barrie.

  1. Tyson Barrie: More than twice as many give-aways as Cody Cece. Let that sink in for a moment…….

  2. He will have to sign a short term and a big discount and prove his worth. He was terrible in the playoffs and it cost him some sheets

  3. This is an opportunity for the Leafs to do a bridge deal with Barrie. 2-3 years to bridge the time remaining in the pandemic era. Revenues in the NHL are now uncertain, so any dreams of that big multi year contract are gone. Do not be surprised if you hear an announcement of Barrie re-signing with the Leafs for 2 years at $3.5 (or some other equally shocking term and number).
This type of scenario will be repeated all across the league. UFA's signing for short terms for surprisingly small dollars. Entry level contracts and league minimums are now the coveted prizes as most teams attempt to simultaneously shed large segments of their payroll.

  4. Barrie will play fine on a team that actually deploys him correctly, and has actual NHL level Defense to compensate for his offensive style. I don't feel bad for the leafs for getting bent over in that deal, I feel bad for Barrie getting dealt that hand on a contract year.

  5. Leafs need to blow it all up, the reality is that Dubas inherited a legitimate playoff team and has reduced it to a soft cream puff shit hole team. Trade Nylander for starters for any sort of help on D.

  6. "Leafs can use their financial might IF they do it right"
Have none of you met Mr. over generous Kyle Dubas?
    Good luck with that happening.

  7. Realistically someone will give him a 6×6, but based on his age, the down year and the flat cap I wouldn't give him more then 4×4.5 … but some desperate team out there with some money to spend will pay him

  8. Probably go to the Bruins and become an all-star.
More realistically, Nashville to play with Josi, if he's lucky.
Detroit if he wants to stay East, Anaheim if willing to go back West.

  9. The Leafs aren't benefiting. They might have the money but the salary cap still exist. They gave Matthews, Tarves and Marner all that money because they thought the cap was gonna keep on rising but now your gonna be flat for at least 2 years. There screwed.

  10. Other GMs are aware of Toronto’s desperation and will make them pay for their poor decisions over the last 2 years. Toronto tried to buy a cup and now they’re screwed. Sleep in the bed Dubas and the pinstripe braintrust made.
