    > Of course, going with Kotkaniemi in that draft slot meant the Canadiens passed up an opportunity to take winger Brady Tkachuk (fourth overall) or defenceman Quinn Hughes (seventh overall) and, well, you probably remember the famous fan reaction on the draft floor.

Tkachuk would not have worked out in Montreal. Too much of a loose cannon.

But I’m surprised Bergevin passed up on all the good defensemen that year.

Keep in mind, We were supposed to take Zadina at 3, Not KK, Not Quinn, Not Brady.

Kotkaniemi also made the NHL at 18, a rare feat for non 1OA’s. It’s why stories like benson and sillinger are stories. KK was also almost .5 PPG as an 18yo rookie. KK also scored a crucial goal in our cinderella cup run.

If anything, KK was a victim of the dying Bergevin era mixed with the line genius that was Dominic Ducharme.

Give 18yo KK Marty SL, bet he’d still love monty and be a solid 2/3C

Hope the kid lands on his feet in a city he wants to play in, I say he got done dirty by a lot of factors.

As a way to get Necas WITH an extension? I’d keep him as an healthy scratch for a year then buy him out.

This guy still has some potential, he needs to hit rock bottom to rebound, he will be back, either in another city or in Finland.

Think we need to abandon this boat of what ifs. Look he would be stupid not to sign when someone offers him above his pay grade money. If anything the Canes owner is to blame. He got him out of spite and expectations were too high for with him with the money he was receiving.

If he does get buyout. Hope he goes to some place SJ or Utah were expectation are lower so he can rebuild his credentials.
