Is Myers the right choice?

I know there is clearly sentimental value for him (re his hit on Keith and taking the puck in the jewels to win Game 6) but in practice I'm not sure if we should be running back the entire right side of the D…

Myers especially is quite worrisome, considering he's 34 and word is we're about to sign him to a 2-3 year contract at 3M. His penalty differential is abhorrent, he's miserable at killing them and is just kind of there defensively.

We also can't forget the four seasons he's been here before Toch, and long story short, he's been bad. 3M might seem cheap on the surface but we're essentially preventing ourselves from making an upgrade in this year's UFA class, which is filled with much younger/better 2nd pair guys.

I just can't help but feel this would be a similar mistake to the one we were all laughing at Holland at a few summers ago in signing Ceci.

Myers at a discount is 100% the right choice.

That’s why all three coaches (ie the people that actually know the game) play him so much.

He’s versatile and great in his proper role.

A guy that can be your #4 for less than 3 million per…100% the right choice.

Myers, your 5th defenceman playing 15-17 minutes a night against middle 6 opponents for 2-2.5million. Fine, potentially even good.

Myers, your 3rd defenceman playing 22 minutes a night against your opponents top line for 4 million. Not fine, potentially a disaster.

Throughout his contact in Vancouver he was over played and played far too high in the lineup.
