Stay-or-Go Summer 2026 Edition: Sean Couturier | PHLY Sports

On Friday’s episode, Charlie and JP broke down how the Summer of 2026 is when the Flyers can go guns ablaze and make a real run at the Stanley Cup with an abundance of cap space and Matvei Michkov playing for the Orange and Black.

With that, the guys played a game of stay-or-go: who should still be on the team when these moves occur? First up: Captain Sean Couturier.

  1. It is time for Coots to do what is right for the team and request a trade and lighten the cap

  2. I'd be OK with trading Couturier. He's simply not worth his salary. Maybe retain $2m/year and get a high draft pick and a good, young player from some team.

  3. The only thing Coots has going for him is that he didn't get a full healthy year before coming back. If, with the time he now has to get himself back in shape, he can be at about 80% of what he was in the first half of the year, but consistent through the whole season… than that probably changes things a bit. He was definitely overplayed in the first half, and it probably would have been good to give him a game off here and there, but this season, there won't be any excuses…. he either HAS to play better or he doesn't need to be here.

  4. The CBA is up in 2026. The last 2 CBA negotiations in 2004-05 and 2012-13 started with a lockout. The new CBA gave each team 2 Buyouts without a Cap Hit. Coots is #1 on that list of a Free Cap hit Buyout.

  5. Does the big 3 really want a guy who "waits it out" for a coach change? While building "the culture"?
