A LOOK AT WHAT THE BUFFALO SABRES WILL DO WITH PICK # 11 AT THE NHL DRAFT #nhldraft #nhldraft2024
mired in a 13 season playoff drought the Buffalo Sabers put good use to the saying what’s old is new again when they bought Lindy Ruff back to be their head coach So today we’re going to take a look at what the Sabres could do at the number 11 overall pick at this year’s NHL draft and try to answer the question is this finally the year the Buffalo Sabers get back into the NHL playoffs hey everybody Welcome in clear on the bench is your One-Stop shop for daily fresh hockey content if you go ahead and hit your subscribe button right now every single day we’ll bring you in a new hockey video to enjoy well before we get into uh what the Sabers did bring in Lindy rough back let’s take a look at what the Sabers have been up to as a team they have not made the playoffs since the 2010 season they have not won a playoff series since 2007 their general manager is Kevin Adams interesting fact is he is only the second player whoever played in the NHL who was born in Washington DC bill nup was the first uh when he was a Youngster he moved to New York and he claims that as his home he played in the NHL for six teams he had 136 points in 540 games uh not too long ago he bought Lindy Ruff back into the F to be the Sabers coach and he was their head coach between 199 97 and 2013 and the Sabers went through six head coaches in the meantime when we look at the number 11 picks in NHL history where the Sabers are picking this year the number one name on this board is a name we’ve heard a lot of lately and that is Jerome ainla and he had 1300 NHL points anre copar still playing he has 1,141 points Ivan Boulder Jeff Carter Brian Rolston Mike singer Jeff fren Dave Manson Mike Ramsey silvane cotay Kevin fala Ryan Ellis and then you want to hear two names the tough guy defenseman from back in the day Lee fogelin and Brad Marsh you didn’t want to have to go up against those guys Michelle Pati and two goenda when we look at the number 11 overall pick in recent NHL history 2017 Gabe valard was picked 2018 Oliver wallstrom 2019 Arizona took Victor soderstrom uh 2020 Nashville took yaroslav Aris askarov 2021 the coyotes typical coyotes fashion they forfeited the pick due to Shenanigans 2022 they kept the pick and they got Connor geeki and in 20 2023 Tom wander was taken by the Vancouver Canucks when we look at recent Sabers number ones uh 2019 they got Dylan cousins and Ryan Johnson 2020 Jack Quinn 2021 they hit the jackpot Owen power and they also got Isaac Rosen uh 2022 big year for them they got a three-headed monster Matt seavoy Noah Osan and Yuri cool and kulich is tearing it up just recently at the uh U 20 World Championships he had 12 points in just seven games and in 2023 the sabes took uh Zach Benson when you look at the roster that the sabes have right now there’s a couple of names I think they want to move on from if they can and the biggest one of all I think is Jeff Skinner they’ve got him on the books for $9 million and he’s there for three more years he had a major drop off in points this year I think he dropped off around 35 points from the previous season uh they’ve got TNT Tage Thompson he’s only 26 years old he took a step back this year scoring but he’s on the books for six more years at $7 million uh which is a great thing for buffalo in my opinion Dylan cousins he’s only 23 years old they’ve got him same thing six more years at $7 million Al Alex tuck is only 28 years old $4.7 million for two more years Jordan Greenway they’ve got him just for this year at $3 million and then you got some guys that are on elc’s and JJ PKA Quinn Zack Benson then you’ve got some rfas in uh Victor olivon and Payton Krebs and I think they’re going to lowball Krebs maybe give them just a bridge deal when you look at what they’ve got on the back end this is where you get excited about the Sabers you got power on Dalene signed until 2029 2030 bow and byon they’ve got still for this year at just 3.8 million and then he becomes an RFA so they get to work with them Conor Clifton two years more 3.3 million and then on IR they’ve got Matias Samuelson and they’ve got him locked up through 20 2930 at 4.2 5 million so they hope he gets healthy in a hurry and gets back in the lineup um they also have three defenseman that are ufas this year when I look at the team overall the first thing I think is they need to get nastier uh if I was Drafting and I was the GM and I looked at you know what was available uh at number 11 if there was a defenseman that had some you know sandpaper and grit some size uh some meanness to him I would look big time in that direction uh so let’s take a look at what they possibly could do oh I’m sorry one more thing in goal they’ve got uh UPL ukap pekon and signed uh I’m sorry he is in RFA this year and he is just 25 years old and of course they’ve got Devon Levi in the pipeline uh so again if we look at the number 11 pick in this year’s draft uh the first thing they could do is they could keep the pick and they could te take the best player available I think they need a little bit more size a nastiness up front and there’s a couple of guys you know depending on who’s available and who drops to them but you know if a lot of the big name you know Kaden Lindstrom and all those guys are gone you could still have Becka senica uh Liam Green Tree you know if they wanted to go with another you know smaller but crazy skilled guy who can light up the scoreboard Berkeley katton may still be available at that spot uh so in my opinion there are some really good options that they could do now depending if they wanted to and let’s say you know obviously if the defenseman they want drops to them they’re going to take them but let’s say uh they start to get a little nervous around pick five six seven and they see a guy that they really covet and they want to make sure they get him this is where you could trade up for a specific guy um and you know there’s some big names out there that they may you know be looking at Zane correct Z boam Salia is supposed to be a shut down guy and again yakam chuck would make that back end nasty and if you put any of these guys with the three that you already have your top two uh defense tier is very very exceptionally skilled and they have a lot of hockey IQ um now another thing you can do is if your guy is gone and you know you just kind of like your balloon got popped uh you could offer your pick here if Cole eer was available I would call the San Jose Sharks who picked 14 uh that’s only moving down three spots and for me the caveat would have to be that San Jose takes Jeff Skinner in that swap so they can uh you know take his contract and if you know they want to uh you know work something out as far as negotiating on you know who would take the money on Skinner’s deal I think that both of these teams have cap space for days so that would not be an issue uh but again if it was me and you know San Jose there’s a lot of rumors that they want to get mlin celebrini and Cole Eiserman together this would be a great opportunity for San Jose if he was still available at number 11 yeah you would have to take on Skinner’s contract uh but you know what you know Skinner may have another good year in him uh and again you know he’s a scoring smaller guy so he could you know show some of the guys that they’ve already got on their roster how to be good professionals and be good scorers as well uh so that’s what I think Buffalo could do at the number 11 overall pick this year uh you know I think Lindy Ruff coming back into the fold was a great move by Buffalo he’s very popular he had some success he was behind the bench the last time that they were in the playoffs so as far as you know that goes it’s a positive upswing and I think just in general it excites the fan base and you know if they were to make a you know Blockbuster deal let’s say and move up a bunch of picks in the draft you never know that would really really excite this fan base as well so let me know what you think the sabes are going to do at this pick if you could put it down in the comments section uh let me know if you think there’s a specific player that they should Target at that spot if they should move up if they should move down if you could please hit your like button hit your subscribe button and as we always do here at clearing the benches let them know you’re out there
The Buffalo Sabres have not made the NHL Playoffs since 2010-2011.
Recently they brought back Lindy Ruff to be their Head Coach for a second stint. Ruff was the Sabres bench boss from 1997-2013.
What will the Sabres do with the # 11 overall selection at this year’s NHL Draft at the Sphere in Las Vegas? Will they keep the pick or trade up or down in a blockbuster trade?
Zeev Buium Zayne Parekh Carter Yakemchuk and Matvei Shuravin could be available when they select.
