  1. The thing about getting rid of Rielly,is that he is one of the few Leafs that show they care and play with heart. One of the over paid core four need to go.

  2. I wouldn’t mind seeing Murray or Klingberg on a cheap one year deal to prove themselves! Florida did well with reclamation projects a.k Bennet, Verhaeghe, Forsling, Montour, Larsson, and Cousin where all player other teams discarded!!!

  3. Reilly, Marner, Matthews , Tavares and Nylander all have no trade contracts. I doubt any of them are considering waiving the no trade clause.

  4. Rielly and Marner help them into the playoffs and then disappear. Get me guys who are built for the playoffs in their place. $20M is better spent than in just these 2.

  5. Amazing to me that a professional organization can’t draft and DEVELOP a defensive group. The leafs give up on young D so fast. Who’s actually working with them vs expecting the players to be finished products ?

  6. Marner doesn’t really give any playoff value – to the team he goes to. Morgan would be good in Winnipeg – but as a Jet Morgan wouldn’t be encouraged to “stick attack an opponent from behind the guy’s back” after a guy does a slap shot into the empty net – goal celebration – as Ottawa won this Year’s Battle of Ontario.

Morgan is basically a #3 or #4 defence man at this point. But if Leafs get the Jet Back up goalie – that is a big improvement for the Leafs.

  7. Reilly is a great person and teammate but they are 22-4-1 without him in the line up since 2022. They should trade him and sign an elite D man. And his no trade clause doesn’t kick in for 5 or 6 years

  8. Plenty of UFA better and cheaper than Reilly. Trade him, Get some picks back and build this team properly.

  9. TSH I agree with you related to Murray and Klingberg. Murray looked average at best with the baby Leafs, and Klingberg's best days are behind him, especially with a full hip replacement, the team cannot afford to risk losing him again and having to scramble to find a replacement.

I would absolutely bring Domi and Bertuzi back, these are the exact kind of hard working players that will thrive under Berube, in fact, I see Berube bringing both their games a couple of notches higher.

As for Reilly, absolutely not! You don't improve this team by trading him and his contract is totally reasonable. Treliving will bring in a bonafide #1 puck moving power play quarterback and I can't think of any better partner for a player of that calibre than Reilly.

They need to get that top defence this summer for the start of the season, but I strongly believe they shouldn't try stacking up the defence until trade deadline when they can get far greater value not having to pay for a top player through the entire season.

So, they need to get their UFAs signed, they need to get a legit #1 goalie but they also need to have a cash of money so they can trade for a top d-man and sign that player, unless he comes with term, to an extension.

Obviously if they do come across that calibre of defence this summer, ya, you have to snap that kind of player up, they still need to have enough space to grab pieces they feel they will need to be legit contenders at the deadline.

It would suck if they didn't have space to add significant pieces at the deadline, then get knocked out in the first or second round again because of it. So, in my opinion, they have to do their absolute best to keep enough funds to add serious talent at the deadline.

So, for me, they absolutely need a #1 puck moving pp quarterback, a top goalie, and a rock solid hard working second line centre which will automatically make the third line one of the strongest in the league with Tavares at centre.

I see quality options on the baby Leaf team also. I have faith in Treliving, look what he was able to do after Dubas capped the team out adding significant defence as well as Dewar when most analysts and fans couldn't see any possible way besides having to make a trade, to improve the team.

I think Treliving gets a bum wrap based on what he did in Calgary, a team, that frankly, not too many players have on their wish list. Toronto is a whole new ball game and we will see Treliving earn his money this year!

As usual, another solid, thoughtful report brother. You really should release your name bro!!
Or come up with a handle so we peons can address you properly!! ")

  10. I hate the "Trade Really" talk..Mo should have been the captain years ago. They don't need to trade him, they need to go out and get him some help..and trading Marner might just be the way to do that..

  11. They have to play Reilly in the same way he played before he was drafted. Leafs never played him that way. He is offensive and likes to carry the puck deep like Bobby Orr his fav player.

  12. John Shanon is on to something, Reilly is overpaid and getting him a 9 million dollar defence partner will not help the Leafs, and it certainly won’t help Reilly,

  13. I thought before they moved Sandin they should move him, that being said you need to spread out the money up front, that’s the bigger issue. Moving rielly won’t push the needle nearly enough.
