We all joked but… could it happen?

Does it make sense? Could we get Moneyhands, the Toastman back?

I think its possible he enjoyed it here but it depends on what he wants to do. Does he want to win now or come back to an organisation who treated him right and gave him a real chance after a lot of serious injuries while being on the flames.

Id be more than happy to see him back knowing how much he was a difference maker on our lineup while being here. Id rather see mony back then trading for a zegras/johnson.

  3. No, he’s going to want term and we shouldn’t give it to a 29-year old with massive injury history coming off 1 point in 5 playoff games

  4. rawboudin

I’d love to have him back. He’d be a great solution to a lot of our problems. That said, he will want term this time and an hefty raise. The timing just doesn’t appear right.

At this point of his career I’d guess that he’d like to go to an immediate contender.

I could see a team like Dallas try to sign him with Pavelski and Duchene likely gone. He’d be a great 3C for them.

Yes. He’ll want term and money – fair. Just do it. He made everyone he played with so much better. He’ll still be around and performing when the window starts to open. Dach absolutely needs someone to play with on the 2nd. They can help Roy or Newhook on the 2 during that time.

Also, if he’s always injured, we can always burry the contract in LTIR.

    I’m not sure… There’s a bunch of “if”….
Owen Beck is pushing hard.. if…
    Necas?!… If…
    Dvorak trade… If..
    Kirby Dach injuries… If…

I don’t know the future but I like the guy and it would be awesome to get him back! If….

  8. I can guarantee you the Habs (both management and players) would LOVE to have him back. He’s exactly the kind of veteran that you want in your offense when you have a young team, and he actually liked playing here.

That being said, depending on what he’s asking for it very well might not happen. We can’t tie ourselves to him for 6-7 years, and we can’t pay him like 6+ millions. We need to wait and see what Sean wants.

  9. StoneColdMethodMan

It’s not impossible. We could even have him with Toffoli. It all depends on the price. Does he want to sign for a million again? Does he want 5 millions. It all depends on the offers he gets.

If you can’t trade for a top 6 player that’s better and younger than Monahan then you draft michkov/lindstrom/catton/iginla and sign a guy like Monahan for 2-3 years at 3-4 mill as a stop gap. We need help on that second line but top 6 players that can get 60-70+ points are going for a premium these days.

Sign Perry, Monahan and Stamkos, then go for the cup. (Since it seems you need a Perry to get to the finals)

  12. IcyChard4

Monahan and Toffoli are possible comebacks. But at what amount? If both can get a salary of about $5+ million AAV for a 4-year contract (paying both $20million, no NMC or NTC attached), I’d be happy to welcome them and finish their careers as Habs players.

  13. Yes it’s possible. Not sure why some people are being dismissive of the idea.

Whether or not it makes sense depends on how other teams view his health. If his 83-game season means that he will get offers with term (e.g. 5 years) then it makes no sense for Montreal. If, on the other hand, he’s getting offers of one or two years as many guys with injury histories get, then it absolutely makes sense.

Montreal needs to add two top-nine forwards this summer and, ideally, one would be long-term and one would be a stop-gap. Essentially, we would like to add another guy through trade or free agency who is young, talented, big, and has term but we also want one guy who can take the oressure off the development of guys like Beck, Kapanen, Mesar, our 5th overall pick, etc.

This second wish-list item is why guys like Monahan, Perron, and Stamkos are rumoured. I don’t see Stamkos as a realistic option but Perron and Monahan might be. It mostly depends on what other teams are willing to offer them.

We don’t have first round picks from Edmonton and Vancouver yet so we need to add those before we can free him from the burden of playing half the season for us.

  15. jimhabfan

I’d see if the Flames would be willing to give up a 1st round pick to take Huberdeau and his contract off their hands. It worked once right?

  16. DivinePotatoe

He’s 29 looking for his last big contract. He’ll want like 4-5 years minimum and I don’t think Hughes will want to commit to that.

  17. SlimZorro

He earned himself a hefty raise from last year.  Good for him, he absolutely earned it, but not with us.  Timing is bad
