How to do the splits like Jonathan Quick: GTP TV Ep 53



Every hockey goalie wants to do the splits like Jonathan Quick. It’s important that you understand what limits you from doing the splits and that you understand the right training to get deeper into the splits without increasing your risk of injury like your current ‘goalie stretches’ are probably doing (especially if you spend a lot of time doing stretches to get the splits).

Start easy with this new off-ice stretching strategy, because it is pretty challenging and it will make your groin muscles sore if you are not used to it – so for sure do not do it before a game or practice.

  1. Didn't watch your videos in a while, and I'm surprised by the quality and effort put into this one! Nice explanation, 2-camera setup, clear sound, this channel is really becoming the reference in terms of goalie training! Great job!

  2. I’ve seen J. Quick do the splits from behind the net… it’s like his nuts & butthole is kissing the Ice at the same time… and somehow… he can pop back up WITHOUT his fricken hands… his legs will be 90degrees to the side of his body, then it’s as if he drops lower till his legs are kinda like a V shape and he “bounces” up… as a dude myself… it’s painful to watch him…

  3. I was just thinking of the same thing last month. I should be contracting the muscle during a mild stretch to make it more functional. Even dynamic stretches would be a good idea standing up. If only we were taught this when we were young. So Many less injuries kids would have gone through.
