Moritz Seider: The 2nd Best Defender in the Draft

Moritz Seider, from the mysterious DEL over in Germany has made quite a name for himself after clinching the league title and now playing for the national German squad in the WC. How high will Seider go in the draft?

  1. He’s nhl ready soon and he’s the best defender…defense wise. He’s good with the puck and good positioning. He can be a cornerstone type defender.

  2. I don't think Yzerman cares about Craig Button's list or anyone else's list for that matter. He liked what he saw in Seider and planted his flag. I can't wait till round two to see what else Stevie Y has up his sleeve. LGRW

  3. This pick was a shock, but now i really like it and have no feelings anymore about them passing on guy like Zegras. I just having a feeling this kid is gonna make Stevie Y decision look good in a few years. Also Seider has an April birthday, so he was playing all season in top Germany mens league as a 17 year old.

  4. hope you're right on this. If he can be a shut down D like how Yzerman described him and still put up 40 points or so, Id be super happy with this pick down the road.

  5. Looks like we're sippn on some Seider in Hockeytown! I'll happily take a solid play making 2 way D man. Before he's 20 he will be on the Wings roster building the future. Great pick at #6.

  6. The Wings have lots of offense with two 30 goal scorers, plus Mantha and Bertuzzi with 25 and 21 last season. And they will only get better. What they need obviously is more blueliners. I like Green, Daly, Hronek, Dekeyser etc., but Seider is going to be a good addition. I like the pick!

  7. I’ve really warmed up to him after feeling a bit apprehensive about this pick. Can’t wait to see what he does here in Detroit

  8. Damn nice call especially a couple months out when you called it but I can see where Steve Yzerman got his highlights and the nerve to take them with the 6th overall pick lol he does look like he plays like a little guy being 6-4 I mean he looks pretty quick nimble now going through everybody else's picks as far as defenseman go I can see where you came up with it and we're Stevie came up with drafting him and taken him as the second defensive man taken he's pretty damn good and he's got good upside and he's a big boy a big rig

  9. "Seider’s best attribute is his hockey sense. It’s high-end. He can anticipate plays, sometimes two steps ahead of his opponents"
"Defensively sound and can be relied upon on the penalty kill because of his great gap control."
"He recognizes his options when playing the puck and rarely makes an unforced error."

  10. Stevie's trying to find a Hedman "style" defenseman for the wings. Big body, good skater, hard to play against, and shore up the back end defensively. wings have some decent dmen with some offensive upside in Hronek, Cholo, Saarijarvi, and potentially Mcisaac . Pair 3 of those guys with Lindstrom and Seider, possibly tuomisto. THe questions marks for me are Seider and Mcisaac because they solid defensively and should def have nhl careers but what's there offensively. Wings D for the future looks balanced with a few offensive minded guys, all good skaters, and some size and grit sprinkled through all 3 pairs. People don't like the pick and that's fine, everyone wants offense but the wings biggest problem is on D and giving up goals. Hopefully the core in Detroit stays put for some time, (71,39,72,59), then add Zadina, Veleno, potentially Berggren and and Grewe. looks like a nice balanced lineup.

  11. I was very disappointed from his last season. But you have to think about the fact, that he had a really bad shoulder injury and missed the half season. But what he did in the World Championship with Age 18 was great! you watched the germany games ? 😉 Er war einfach Hammer, bis er den bösen Check bekommen hat.

  12. How about 5 months later, He is third on the roster in points for the G.R. Griffins of the AHL, While showing so much maturity he may have Stevie Y thinking about waiting yet another year to name a Captain.

  13. I highly recommend you read the blog. Moritz Seider has been keeping during his stay in Grand Rapids(my home town) It is a small sample of this young mans intelligence. He could easily take the job's of the trash writers here and Detroit.

  14. I can see Lidstrom qualities in him, not saying he’s gonna be at that type of level but call me crazy. He’s anticipates plays, he’s smooth and has a finesse to his game. I like that he isn’t apprehensive about getting nasty if he has to. A solid pick by the “captain of captains”

  15. He had a great season in Grand Rapids AHL in 19-20. He's probably going to be in Detroit for the 20-21 season. Especially with the AHL season in doubt.
